General Information

Unit Synopsis

This unit builds on the knowledge, skills and dispositions from the foundational nursing units to explore the complexity of nursing care in acute settings. Students will apply an evidence based approach to assessing, planning, implementing and documenting nursing care for patients experiencing acute illness. Effective communication and collaboration with patients, families and other health care professionals will be emphasised as key to facilitating positive health outcomes. Students will be expected to function within the scope of practice of a nursing student in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse (2006) during a compulsory clinical placement.
