Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Source: Students feedback.
Feedback
Too many weekly ZOOM tutorials to help students making up the required contact hours.
Recommendation
The recommendation is uncertain depending on the university's strategic plan for next year to determine if this unit will have physical residential schools. Consider the self-allocation method on Moodle utilised in weeks 11-13.
Action Taken
ZOOM sessions were cut down to reduce the stress on lecturers and students given the extra work that was required to source placements due to COVID. ZOOM sessions were held ad-hoc at student requests to answer questions. Microsoft teams were used for quicker responses that did not need ZOOM participation.

Feedback
Many students do not have their clinical placement until later. This raises the question of whether residential school could be arranged in separate block sessions to accommodate for students commencing later placements.
Recommendation
Recommendation uncertain depending on the university's strategic plan for next year in determining if this unit will have physical residential schools. Consider alternate delivery modes to meet student requirements.
Action Taken
Unit coordinators have advised the possibility of arranging residential schools throughout the term. This would reduce the demands of the staff teaching in residential schools and allow students to review the Moodle content in a timely fashion.

Feedback
ZOOM sessions were found to be very informative with students enjoying interacting with the unit coordinators and fellow students. Topics discussed were relevant to student nurses.
Recommendation
Recommendation is to keep weekly ZOOM sessions. However if residential is face to face they will not be mandatory and will only be held once a week.
Action Taken
Weekly ZOOMS were not required this year as face to face residential were held for a majority of students. Please refer to the comments in the first box.

Feedback
Using First2Act was an excellent learning resource for identifying and managing a deteriorating patient adding to the education provided by the lecturers.
Recommendation
Recommendation to keep utilising this resource to further enhance education around the deteriorating patient which will assist in the overall clinical assessment of the unit.
Action Taken
First2Act was used again for students who undertook online residential school with positive responses. The UCs would highly recommend the use of this program in future units.

Feedback
Moodle unit page was somewhat confusing to follow and links to classes and educational resources.
Recommendation
Recommendation is to change platform on Moodle to the new view to allow ease of navigating to required links.
Action Taken
The Moodle platform was changed as per university requirements to the new platform.

Feedback
Staff support during clinical placement was exemplary particular when faced with challenges within the clinical field. The lecturers really listened to the students concerns and factored these in when making a final decision.
Recommendation
Recommendation to staff is to remain transparent and fair, considering all points and people before making decisions.
Action Taken
Staff were student-focussed throughout the term. The secret to a successful CNP5 is communication and transparency between unit coordinators. A lead coordinator for this unit needs to be a transformational leader. Students were included in all decisions that impacted them when appropriate. Some decisions were out of our hands for example COVID cancellations.

Feedback
Many complaints received regarding MedSafe around inaccuracy and ambiguous answers. The program quite often closed down during the assessment meaning the student had to start again.
Recommendation
The recommendation is not to utilise MedSafe in the future for this unit. The unit will either have a quiz on Moodle as an assessment a student can complete or a paper version that students can complete in class during residential.
Action Taken
MedSafe was not used. An online Moodle quiz was used with positive responses such as much easier to use, not as painful, not confusing, and easy to understand.

Feedback
Remove skill stations and focus on scenarios. The scenarios we completed were great as it made us feel like we were actually in the real world. The feedback from these scenarios were valuable and I still remember it now months later. The staff worked well together, online and in Res school.
Recommendation
For PEP5 remove skill stations and replace them with scenarios to assess critical thinking and clinical reasoning from day 1.

Feedback
It was absolutely fantastic at the beginning of the semester with all the teaching staff being very supportive during constant changing requirements due to COVID. The teaching staff were just fantastic and tried their absolute best to assist students though this very difficult period, even though we know it stressed them too. Was just awesome all their support and understanding and ability to not make us students feel their stress. Phenomenal teaching staff, massive thank you to all.
Recommendation
Unit coordinators to remain supportive and student-focussed throughout the term. Having a team that works well with each other and is transparent with all information. Keep using SugarCRM for all emails.

Feedback
The medication calculation test was much better than the other online ones as I was less likely to make a mistake on this format. The questions were also more realistic of what you could see on the floor which helped my learning.
Recommendation
Use a Moodle quiz for PEP 5 with industry-focussed questions.

Feedback
The coordinator never contacted me during or after placement. They took Forever to mark and sign of assesment pieces. I am not sure if they were engaged or just snowed under With the subject and may needed more help from the University.
Recommendation
Ensure that all students are contacted during the term through the use of a spreadsheet and automatic emailing. Abide by CQU return assessment policy. Unsure of who this student is to discuss concerns.
Action Taken
Nil.

Feedback
CQU need a clearer scope of practice to present to clinical facilitators so there is no confusion of what we can and cannot do at times. I felt that my clinical facilitator in my last placement withheld practical learning opportunities at times due to the scope of practice that I could present to them from the ANSAT document as it wasn't detailed enough.
Recommendation
Ensure a clear guide to the scope of practice is available on Moodle for students to take on placement.
Action Taken
Nil.
