Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Tasks

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

1. Participate and take limited responsibility for teamwork in both performance and non-performance aspects of the music and theatre activities in this course;
2. Demonstrate relevant knowledge of problem-solving skills required in both performance and non-performance aspects of the music and theatre activities in this course;
3. Perform a range of tasks that demonstrate professionalism in rehearsal and performance situations and an emerging ability to work independently in the preparation of material for rehearsals and performance;
4. Explore the creative, critical and self-regulated thinking as applied to various performance, technical and creative roles;
5. Demonstrate expanding knowledge of the stylistic, historical and interpretive requirements of the music and theatre repertoire chosen for this course;
6. Apply a wide range of developing skills to execute various performance and technical roles competently in public performance, including aspects of technical competency, group interaction, sensitivity, musicality and creativity.
7. Demonstrate some relevant theoretical knowledge of professional organizational, management and business skills to music ensemble performance activities and events;
8. Perform with expanding proficiency in the music ensemble techniques covered in this course pertinent to their specialization;
9. Demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the role, the responsibilities, and accepted procedures of stage management.
10. Identify the various forms, templates and other paperwork associated with production organization.
11. Gain experience in constructing a prompt book, recording blocking and calling cues.
