SOCL11056 - Australian Identity

General Information

Unit Synopsis

This unit will focus on what it means to be an “Australian”. Who is a ‘real Australian’? Where does Australian ‘identity’ come from? How has Australian identity changed over time? The unit will teach students about the social influences that shape different Australian identities. It will enable students to think critically about the influence of social and economic structures on themes such as culture, gender and sexuality, class, tourism, sport, and rurality on an individual’s narrative about their national identity.
