Course summary

Are you interested in a career as an Teacher Assistant or Educational Support worker? This course will give you the operational knowledge required to be employed within the education sector as a Teacher Aide. 

The Education Support qualification prepares future employees to work in varied educational settings, these being; State Schools, Independent Schools, Private Schools and Community Educational Services. This qualification will provide you with the knowledge you need to provide support to teachers and students as necessary.

Course Structure - Continuing Students

Summary
This is the Course Structure for students who were admitted to their course prior to August 2017.  To successfully complete this course, students must complete a total of 17 units, consisting of 12 core units and 5 elective units.  Students can enrol into one or more units at a time.  
Participate in Work Health and Safety
To complete the unit HLTAID003, students will need to enrol into the Accredited Short Course ACC00078 - Short Course in First Aid for Education and Care with CQUniversity or complete HLTAID003 with another Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Summary

This course is available online with teaching support available through email and telephone. Online students require self-motivation and must have 21 hours per week available for study and placement. 

Optional tutorial sessions are held through Zoom meetings each Monday evening from 6 pm – 7 pm.

Practical Placement Information

Each unit in this course has a practical component. Students who are not already working in a primary or high school workplace must organise a voluntary work placement. Students who are already employed as a Teacher Aide, can use their existing work to fulfill practical requirements. 

All students will need to complete third party reports, practical assessment, and a vocational placement logbook. These observations and reports will need to be signed off by a qualified, registered teacher. Students will be required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of placement throughout the duration of the course. 

All students will need to hold a Blue Card prior to starting their practical work placement.  For more information on the 'Blue Card' visit - https://www.bluecard.qld.gov.au or phone: 1800 113 611. Students not currently working in the industry will need to organise a placement in consultation with teaching staff.

Is what I already know taken into account?

Yes. Your history of study, skills and experience does matter. Consideration is given to your prior life and work experiences as well as formal and informal training. This may be applied using the national standard for Mutual Recognition or through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Documentary evidence will be requested.
