Certificate III in Nail Technology (SHB30315)

Course summary

This qualification reflects the role of individuals employed as nail technicians to provide manicure and pedicare services, including the application of nail art and acrylic and gel nail enhancements.

These individuals possess a range of well-developed technical and customer service skills where discretion and judgement is required and are responsible for their own outputs. This includes client consultation on nail care products and services. Nail technicians may also be self-employed and responsible for managing their own nail station.

Summary

This availability is offered via online study with 11 x five day compulsory intensive internal workshops held on campus. Workshops will be scheduled monthly throughout the year to participate in practical components of this course. 

Theory content includes recordings, PowerPoint presentations, and activities for each treatment and will be available online with teaching support available through discussion forums, email, telephone and weekly Zoom tutorials. Online students require self-motivation and must have at least 10 - 12 hours per week available for research, reading and viewing recordings.

Mixed Mode (Nail Qualification Upgrade)

Summary

This course offers a qualification upgrade, where students can complete selected units from SHB30315 in order to achieve a nail specialisation. 

The nail upgrade is offered by Mixed Mode study, where study is primarily completed online study with 5 x five day compulsory intensive internal workshops held on campus. Workshops will be scheduled monthly throughout the year to participate in practical components of this course. 

Theory content includes recordings, PowerPoint presentations, and activities for each treatment and will be available online with teaching support available through discussion forums, email, telephone and weekly Zoom tutorials. Online students require self-motivation and must have at least 10 - 12 hours per week available for research, reading and viewing recordings.

Intensive Internal Workshops

Intensive Internal Workshops will be held from 9 am to 4 pm monthly at CQUniversity Mackay City campus. These workshops are compulsory.

For students starting the course at the February intake and who are studying the full qualification, attendance is required on the following dates:

Uniform Requirements

Whilst on-campus, students are required to adhere to the following uniform requirements:   
  • Black or white tunic 
  • Black full-length or ¾ work pants (no leggings, jeggings or jeans)
  • Covered in flat shoes
  • Black apron
  • Minimal makeup, minimal jewelry, no midriffs and maintain short manicured nails.
Tunics and aprons can be purchased from local beauty suppliers. 

Model Requirements and Client Treatments

It is each student’s responsibility to ensure that a model is obtained and booked into the appointment book for all Practical Assessments. Students must be prepared to provide treatments to clients.

Resource Requirements

For at home practice, students will need to purchase the following gel and acrylic nail kits:

  • Bio Sculpture Gel Kit - $615.00
  • Hawley Illume Kit from $100.00

Further information about where to purchase the Bio Sculpture Gel kit will be provided in class. The Hawley Illume kit can be purchased from Beautopia Hair & Beauty Products at Victoria Street, Mackay or from Norris Hair and Beauty Supplies at Evans Avenue, North Mackay.
