Course summary

This qualification reflects the role of individuals employed as nail technicians to provide manicure and pedicare services, including the application of nail art and acrylic and gel nail enhancements.

These individuals possess a range of well-developed technical and customer service skills where discretion and judgement is required and are responsible for their own outputs. This includes client consultation on nail care products and services. Nail technicians may also be self-employed and responsible for managing their own nail station.

There are two intakes for this course. One intake for Term 1 2017 and one intake for Term 2 2017.

Duration and dates
6 months.

Fifteen (15) units must be successfully completed - eleven (11) core units and four (4) elective units.


Classes will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 am - 4 pm. 

Term 1 will commence 13 February 2017.

Term 2 will commence 10 July 2017.

Assessment tasks are completed online and students will need access to a computer with the internet.

For at home practice, students will need to purchase the following gel and acrylic nail kits:

  • Bio Sculpture Gel Kit - $615.00
  • Hawley Illume Kit from $100.00

Further information about where to purchase the Bio Sculpture Gel kit will be provided in class. The Hawley Illume kit can be purchased from Beautopia Hair & Beauty Products at Victoria Street, Mackay or from Norris Hair and Beauty Supplies at Evans Avenue, North Mackay.

Uniform Requirements

Students are required to wear a uniform for this course.

  • Black tunic which is available from Totally Workwear, Uniform Solutions or Twisted Creations.    
  • Full length pants, ¾ pants or black knee length skirt with stockings. No tights or jeggings.
  • Closed in, flat shoes.
  • Minimal makeup and jewellery.

Practical Assessment Information

As this course has practical assessment items, students must organise their own models and appointments for all practical assessment tasks.
