Course summary

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as beauty therapists to provide a range of beauty therapy treatments and services, including lash and brow treatments, nail services, make-up, massage and waxing. They communicate with clients to recommend treatments and services and sell retail skin care and cosmetic products.

These individuals undertake work independently, with limited guidance from others, to perform routine and non-routine activities and solve non-routine problems. They apply and adapt technical skills and knowledge, and use judgment in the provision of beauty treatments and services. These individuals are responsible for their own outputs and provide limited guidance to others.

Work is typically conducted in beauty salons and spas.

There are no entry requirements for this course. However, completion of another Beauty qualification would be advantageous.

Next intake for this course is Term 1, 2017 commencing 30 January 2017.

This course is available at CQUniversity Mackay City campus.

Nineteen (19) units must be successfully completed: thirteen (13) core units and six (6) elective units.


This qualification is delivered on campus two days per week. 

Classes commence on 30 January 2017 in the Mackay City Beauty Salon.

Students are required to attend two days per week - Tuesday and Wednesday from 8.45 am - 3.30 pm with a 1/2 hour lunch break each day.

This equates to 12.5 hrs on campus each week.

Students are also expected to undertake extra study in their own time to complete all aspects of their Diploma.

Students must have access to internet services as they will need to complete online work.

Uniform Requirements

Practical Presentation:  
Black tunic - Available from Totally Workwear, Uniform Solutions, Twisted Creations.     
Pants - ¾ Pants or black knee length skirt with stockings, NO TIGHTS or JEGGINGS.
Covered in Flat Shoes.
Minimum makeup, minimum jewelry, no midriffs.

Practical Placement Information

Practical placement will be required for a period of three days in September.

Model Requirements and Client Treatments

It is each student’s responsibility to ensure that a model is obtained and booked into the appointment book for all Practical Assessments. Students must be prepared to provide treatments to clients.

Yes. Your history of study, skills and experience does matter. Consideration is given to your prior life and work experiences as well as formal and informal training. This may be applied using the national standard for Mutual Recognition or through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Documentary evidence will be requested.

Students must have a computer with internet to complete online work, a 32g USB, pens, pencils, writing paper.
