Learn how to work effectively in a laboratory. The course covers performing basic laboratory analysis, maintaining equipment, calibrating test equipment, processing and recording data, communication and teamwork.

Students undertaking this course are required to be working in a laboratory, or must undertake a compulsory, on-campus two week practical block at CQUniversity Mackay Ooralea to satisfy practical components of their course.
1. Students will receive a Result of Assessment within 21 days of completion of each unit/module or within 21 days of the ‘close of study’ date.
2. Students who successfully complete all required units/modules will receive their qualification and an Academic Statement itemising all units/modules successfully completed.
3. Following receipt of written advice from the student (or teacher) that the student does not intend to complete the full course, the student will be issued with a Statement of Attainment listing all units/modules successfully completed.
Employment outcomes may include laboratory technicians, science technicians, instrument operators and similar personnel.
12 months part-time
Students must complete all Core units.

This course is available to study via Mixed Mode, with teaching support available through email and telephone. Students will require self-motivation and must have 4 – 6 hours per week available for study. Students are required to be working in a laboratory or must attend practical blocks at CQUniversity Mackay Ooralea campus to complete the practical component of the course. Resources will be emailed to students by teaching staff.
Is what I already know taken into account?
Yes. Your history of study, skills and experience does matter. Consideration is given to your prior life and work experiences as well as formal and informal training. This may be applied using the national standard for Mutual Recognition or through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Documentary evidence will be requested.
