Residential School Information

Students must attend a five day residential school at a CQUniversity nominated location where learning activities in managing and evaluating emergency operation management exercises is undertaken. 

During the five-day residential school, students be exposed to a scenario that replicates activities they could undertake during an actual disaster event. The residential covers activation of an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), escalation of the event including transition to the next operational level, then undertake a transition to recovery after the event has passed. Students will review potential recovery functions and services identifying with stakeholders potential strategies that enable the community to return to a normal stance after an incident or event within a self-managed group. The Advanced Diploma students undertake the management of the exercise.

Travel, accommodation and meals are to be met by the individual student. It is estimated the residential to be approximately $2,500. 

Residential School details will be provided to students by teaching staff.  

Diploma and Advanced Diploma Combined Program

PUA52312 Diploma of Public Safety (Emergency Management) and PUA60112 Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (Emergency Management) combined are an integrated and blended professional development program, structured to enable new entrants and existing practitioners the opportunity to enhance their skills, capability and competencies in this specialised field of emergency management.

The Diploma is designed to support integrated action learning in the broad range of core elements of emergency management. The Advanced Diploma, builds on this body of work in providing a greater understanding of the, requirements, responsibilities and emergency management roles within the sector.   

This professional development pathway is structured over a two year, four - 20 week terms of clustered Units of Competency.

For each term’s program, the Units are clustered to provide students the opportunity to undertake a body of work, which typically replicates a workplace environment within an emergency management role.

Exit Opportunities

Advanced Diploma graduates are offered two options to continue with their professional development:

 Option 1: Enrol in the three year full-time CC60 - Bachelor of Emergency Service and if eligible they may receive up to 12 Units of credit or up to eighteen months full-time equivalent credit from the degree. 

Or 

  Option 2: Enrol in the CC27 - Graduate Certificate in Emergency and Disaster Management, which recognises the changing nature of emergency and disaster management in Australia and the important role research and evidence-based practice plays in underpinning contemporary perspectives and approaches.
