General Information

Overview

Students are provided with the opportunity to become a 'real world' investigator during this foundation unit. Through engagement with peers, lecturing staff and the socio-technical world around them, students will develop base skills in investigation ethics and philosophy, evidence-based practice in investigation forensics, and begin to understand the nature of accidents and disasters, and latent pathogens in socio-technical systems.

Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

One student reported that they found the final assignment difficult without the proper framework documents, having to use rail safety framework for the maritime framework assessment.

Recommendation

It is recommended to make it clearer to students that they have to use the Maritime Safety Contributing Factors Framework for the final assessment and not the Rail Safety one as one of the students appeared to have missed this key information.
