Feedback, Recommendations and Responses
Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.
Feedback from SUTE
Strong Industry Expertise and Authentic Learning- Unit Relevance to Degree (100%) - Students consistently acknowledged the coordinator's professional knowledge and industry experience, particularly in retirement planning and superannuation. Students also noted that the teaching approach reflects contemporary professional practice and exposes them to realistic financial planning processes.
The unit coordinator continues to share her knowledge and experiences.
Feedback from SUTE
Integration of Contemporary Industry Technologies like GenAI - Students were highly supportive of the incorporation of GenAI into the curriculum, recognising the importance of these skills for future professional practice.
Continue to encourage students to use GenAI responsibly but focus more on the unit content than on teaching responsible GenAI skills.
Feedback from SUTE
Perceived Workload and Content Volume - Some students indicated that the breadth of content felt equivalent to more than one unit and compared this unit to other non-financial planning units.
Clearly include essential skills only on the Moodle LMS. Review opportunities to reduce duplication across resources. Continue reviewing workload against equivalent unit expectations.
Feedback from SUTE
Learning Resource Delivery - Students appear to prefer fewer, larger recordings that allow continuous viewing while still permitting pause and review.
Review video structure and consolidation opportunities. Consider combining related content into larger thematic recordings.
Feedback from SUTE
Assessment Support and Scaffolded Learning -Several comments suggested students would benefit from additional guidance when preparing the SOA.
Support students more to navigate complex professional tasks for the first time. Review opportunities to streamline the student SOA template.
Feedback from SUTE
Industry Software Experience - One student specifically raised concerns regarding Midwinter software and suggested alternative platforms. Exposure to industry software remains valuable because it helps students understand contemporary advice processes and software-driven advice production. However, learning software and learning financial planning concepts simultaneously can increase cognitive load.
Review supporting resources for software activities. Provide additional software demonstrations and troubleshooting support.
