There will be 5 online quizzes which will be held in weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, and 11. Each quiz will be accessible over a 32-hour period (i.e. open at 10am on Tuesday and close Wednesday at 6pm AEST) with the time to complete each quiz to be advised, depending on the number of questions and marks per quiz. Once started, the quiz cannot be paused or restarted. The content of these quizzes will be related to information on patient referrals including but not limited to laboratory data and clinical history, sonographer worksheet documentation, and descriptions of sonographic images. Questions will be in a multiple-choice question (MCQ) or short answer format.

These are open book tests, so you have the opportunity to consult your notes, lecture slides, textbooks, and the unit Moodle page.

You are allowed one attempt at each quiz so please ensure you are prepared beforehand. Quiz dates are available on the unit Moodle page.

The purpose of these mini quizzes is to assist you to evaluate where your learning is at each fortnight and to identify specific areas you may need to improve upon. These quizzes make up 20% of the unit total, so each quiz equates to 4% of the unit total.

These assessment tasks must be completed on or before the due dates. No late submissions are permitted after the test has closed, so please ensure adequate time for completion, with additional time for computer mishaps. If you have computer / test access difficulties, you need to contact TaSAC as soon as possible for assistance, and the unit coordinator (after you've contacted TaSAC) if you cannot complete the test in the allocated time before the end of the test (Wednesday 6pm AEST).

In these two online tests, you will be demonstrating your critical thinking skills to answer the questions. This may include using information from clinical and ultrasound image presentations to arrive at diagnoses, using a diagnosis and working backwards to describe the expected sonographic presentation, other combinations of clinical presentation, sonographic presentation, and diagnoses, and extending the ultrasound examination if appropriate. To do this, you will evaluate clinical case studies, images, and clinical presentation information. Questions will be in the format of short answer, medium length answer, and multiple choice questions (MCQs). 

The online tests will be available at the following dates and times:

Part A - Week 5, Wednesday 6/4/22, 12pm - 1:30pm AEST - on content from weeks 1 to 4

Part B - Week 10, Wednesday 18/5/22, 12pm - 1:30pm AEST - on content from weeks 5 to 10

The length of the tests will be 1 hour so please ensure you start within 30 minutes of the opening time to allow adequate time to complete the test. At 1:30pm AEST / 11:30am AWST, all attempts will be automatically submitted for both tests.

You will be assessed on your critical thinking ability by evaluating clinical information including sonographic images, clinical presentation information, ultrasound findings, and extending your ultrasound examination.

Required answers require critical thinking and may include explaining what has been demonstrated in the images using appropriate sonographic terminology, including anatomical features, differential diagnoses, a provisional diagnosis, and how to extend the examination. Answers may also include working backward to provide possible clinical presentations of patients with those specific images.

This assessment is to be undertaken as an individual. Colluding with other students on non-group work tasks is considered academic misconduct, and will be reported to the Deputy Dean of Learning and Teaching (HMAS).

The cumulative pass mark for this assessment task is 50%. In the event of a cumulative mark of 50% not being reached, a supplementary assessment may be available for that specific part (Part A and/or Part B) if all criteria are met according to the Assessment Policy and Procedure (Higher Education Coursework).

The purpose of this in-class test is to assess your critical thinking, memory recall, and accuracy in reporting abdominal ultrasound findings. To do this, you will evaluate clinical case studies, images, videos, and clinical presentation information. Questions will be in the format of short answer, long answer, multiple choice questions (MCQs), and completing sonographer worksheets. Questions and images will include both normal and pathological cases of areas covered throughout the whole unit.

The in-class test will be held on your campus at the date and time listed below, with the on-campus computer lab to be confirmed. The length of the test will be 2 hours, and will include an online and written component so please bring your own pens and pencils. Paper will be provided.

You will be assessed on your ability to evaluate clinical information including sonographic images and videos, clinical presentation information, and ultrasound findings. You will also be assessed on your ability to correctly complete sonographer worksheets, and knowledge on when and how to extend an ultrasound examination.

Required answers may include completing sonographer worksheets, explaining what has been demonstrated in the images or videos using appropriate sonographic terminology, and including anatomical features, a provisional diagnosis, differential diagnoses, and where else in the body you may need to extend the examination. Answers may also include working backward to provide possible clinical presentations of patients with those specific images or videos.
