Feedback, Recommendations and Responses
Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.
Feedback from Student Feedback
Student feedback indicated that there wasn’t enough time to prepare for early residential schools which had an intensive 3 days learning experience for students.
Course Coordinators recommend residential schools not be offered any earlier than the end of week 2 of term to enable students time to do the required preparation.
Recommendation of Unit Coordinators was accepted and actioned. In addition students were provided with a detailed Information and pre-briefing package to enable them to prepare for their on-campus learning sessions.
Feedback from Student Feedback
Student feedback was that some teaching staff needed to be better prepared to deliver course content.
Some teaching staff were not allocated to the course until after the start of term. It would be beneficial to student learning for all teaching staff to be allocated to the course and available to engage with the course at least 2 weeks prior to the start of term.
Recommendation of Unit Coordinators was accepted and actioned. All staff attended a briefing session which was recorded and made available via the Unit Moodle site for staff to view again if needed. Improvements in student satisfaction with the Unit show these actions assisted in their learning
Feedback from Student Feedback
Student feedback was that Assessment 2 was not clear enough for many students.
Assessment 2 will be modified in line with the other clinical course.
Assessments were revised and student feedback in 2017 clearly shows the changes implemented assisted students in their learning
Feedback from Student Feedback Reflection by Course Coordinators
Student feedback suggested there was not enough time to complete some activities during the on-campus learning sessions.
On-campus learning activities will be reviewed and timing adjusted. There appears to be some overlap from Clinical Nursing Practice 1 and Clinical Nursing Practice 3 and these overlaps will be addressed to increase time available for new skills.
NURS12156 Clinical Nursing Practice 2 was revised and the improvements in student satisfaction with the Unit in 2017 clearly show that these revisions assisted students in their learning.

1 Practical and Written Assessment
You will be required to demonstrate your ability in a number of clinical skills while at the NURS12156 Clinical Nursing Practice 2 on campus learning sessions. This will take the form of Practical Assessment of Clinical Skills and Written Calculation test.
Practical Assessment of Clinical Skills – Consists of two parts – Clinical Skills Assessment and Progress notes.
Part A - Clinical Skills Assessment
This assessment will be a simulation assessment activity focusing on your clinical abilities and safe nursing practice. The Clinical Skills Assessment will be the final clinical activity held during the on-campus clinical learning sessions. You will be allowed 15 minutes to completed your Clinical Skills Assessment.
Part B - Progress Notes
You are required to accurately document the outcomes of the Clinical Skills Assessment as nursing notes.
At the completion of your Clinical Skills Assessment you will have 5 minutes with your client case study information to make brief notes, which must then be developed into comprehensive, legal and legible progress notes. These must be hand written on the form provided and uploaded to the NURS12156 Clinical Nursing Practice 2 Moodle site within 3 days of completing your on-campus Clinical Skills Assessment.
Written Calculation Test
The Written Calculation Test will be based on the learning undertaken during the on-campus learning sessions and will consist of five (5) short answer medication calculation questions. Students will be allowed 20 minutes to complete the Written Calculation Test, which will be held on the last day of the on-campus learning sessions.
Please note – Self directed preparation for the Written Calculation Test can be achieved by completing the online Medication Safety Activities and Assessments outlined in Assessment 2.
Completed during the on-campus clinical learning sessions. The progress notes must be uploaded to the Unit Moodle site within 3 days of completing your Clinical Skills Assessment.
You will be advised immediately following the Clinical Skills Assessment if remediation is required. Feedback on your progress notes will be provided within 10 working days following submission to Moodle. You will be advised on the day if you have been successful in your Written Calculation Test. Please see Assessment Criteria below for further information.
Assessment 1 consists of two activities which must be completed in accordance with the criteria for a pass on the marking guide before a pass can be award.
Practical Assessment of Clinical Skills
Part A - Clinical Skills Assessment - will be based on skills covered during the on-campus clinical learning sessions. To attain a pass you must achieve all the following components for each skill:
- Maintenance of standard precautions.
- Effective communication.
- Assessment of the situation and person.
- Safe administration of medications.
- Safe execution of the procedure within the scope of practice for a student undertaking NURS12156 Clinical Nursing Practice 2.

As a CQUniversity student you are expected to act honestly in all aspects of your academic work.
Any assessable work undertaken or submitted for review or assessment must be your own work. Assessable work is any type of work you do to meet the assessment requirements in the unit, including draft work submitted for review and feedback and final work to be assessed.
When you use the ideas, words or data of others in your assessment, you must thoroughly and clearly acknowledge the source of this information by using the correct referencing style for your unit. Using others’ work without proper acknowledgement may be considered a form of intellectual dishonesty.
Participating honestly, respectfully, responsibly, and fairly in your university study ensures the CQUniversity qualification you earn will be valued as a true indication of your individual academic achievement and will continue to receive the respect and recognition it deserves.
As a student, you are responsible for reading and following CQUniversity’s policies, including the Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure. This policy sets out CQUniversity’s expectations of you to act with integrity, examples of academic integrity breaches to avoid, the processes used to address alleged breaches of academic integrity, and potential penalties.
What is a breach of academic integrity?
A breach of academic integrity includes but is not limited to plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion, cheating, contract cheating, and academic misconduct. The Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure defines what these terms mean and gives examples.
Why is academic integrity important?
A breach of academic integrity may result in one or more penalties, including suspension or even expulsion from the University. It can also have negative implications for student visas and future enrolment at CQUniversity or elsewhere. Students who engage in contract cheating also risk being blackmailed by contract cheating services.
Where can I get assistance?
For academic advice and guidance, the Academic Learning Centre (ALC) can support you in becoming confident in completing assessments with integrity and of high standard.
