Overview
In this unit, you will have the opportunity to practice nursing care in the community or rehabilitative environment. You will apply the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered Nurse Standards for Practice (2016). You will continue to explore the importance of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards (2017) to all nursing practice in Australia and use the Patient Safety Competency Framework (PSCF) (Levett-Jones et al., 2017) in your practice as a nursing student. You will be expected to identify risk and recognise and respond appropriately to the deteriorating patient in the simulated and clinical environment. You will work within your scope of practice using the Decision-Making Framework (DMF) (NMBA, 2020). You are required to participate in a compulsory three (3) day residential school prior to attending professional experience placement for this unit. This unit includes a 80 hour block professional experience placement in a community or rehabilitative environment. For students, who have completed NURS12157, Concepts of Mental Health Nursing but have not completed, NURS12158, Clinical Nursing Practice 3, you will be undertaking an extra 80 hour professional experience placement block. You must meet specific mandatory health, safety and security requirements to be eligible to attend each professional experience placement. Professional experience placements may be limited in your community and you may be placed in other locations. Please be prepared financially and personally to cover the costs to relocate for placements. Due to the limited availability of placements, some block placements have start and/or end dates that fall outside standard term dates.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

1 In-class Test(s)
The quiz will assess your ability to correctly complete medication calculations and your knowledge of medication safety. The quiz consists of 20 questions and will be completed during your residential school. The questions are of various types, including multiple choice, type in answer and drag and drop. You have a maximum of one hour to complete the quiz. You must complete the quiz in one sitting, under the direct supervision of a lecturer. Once you have started the quiz, you cannot log out. Please do not refresh or reload your screen; this may close the quiz and record your result. The quiz will automatically close at the end of one hour and will submit your result.
You have a maximum of three attempts to complete the quiz. Each attempt will be held on a different day of residential school. If you require an additional attempt, you must undertake remediation by completing a learning package and practice quiz prior to subsequent attempts. These learning packages are available on the Maths Central platform on Nursing Central. It is your responsibility to complete this between each attempt.

Pass/Fail - you must achieve 100% in this quiz to pass. You have 3 attempts to achieve 100%.

2 Professional Practice Placement
Your Professional Experience Placement (PEP) is assessed via the Australian Nurse Standards Assessment Tool (ANSAT). The ANSAT provides a platform for you and your assessor to record, reflect on and discuss your clinical learning and your clinical practice in line with the Registered nurse standards for practice.
Your assessment is undertaken with a registered nurse from your placement. All documentation is contained in SONIA. Therefore, there are a number of important steps you need to undertake to ensure that your assessment is completed.
Instructions
1. Prior to your PEP: Locate the Facilitator/preceptor notification form on SONIA.
2. Day 1: Complete the facilitator/preceptor notification form and submit on SONIA.
3. During your PEP, maintain an accurate Record of Attendance timesheet. Each shift should be co-signed by an RN, preceptor or clinical facilitator.
4. Midway through your PEP: Complete a Formative ANSAT.
This requires the following steps:
a. Complete the Student formative self-assessment ANSAT found in SONIA. Submit this to your assessor.
b. After your assessor has completed their feedback in the Formative ANSAT in SONIA, discuss this feedback with your assessor.
c. Your Formative ANSAT will be reviewed by your Unit Coordinator and sign it.
If you score below 3 in any of the criteria, a learning support plan may be implemented. This support plan will provide clear performance expectations and goals to work towards.
d. Review the Unit Coordinator’s comments. Complete the student declaration and signature section at the end of your Formative ANSAT. You will receive an email notification when this is available. (Completing these steps will trigger the release of the summative ANSAT.)
5. Towards the completion of your PEP: Complete a Summative Assessment:
This requires the following steps:
a. Complete the Student summative self-assessment in SONIA. Submit this to your assessor.
b. After your assessor has completed their feedback in the Summative ANSAT in SONIA, discuss this feedback with your assessor.
c. You will be notified by email to complete the student declaration and signature section on your Summative ANSAT.
d. You will need to attain a score of 3 or higher for each ANSAT criterion on the summative ANSAT assessment to pass this assessment.
e. You Summative ANSAT will be reviewed by your Unit Coordinator and check the hours recorded on your Record of Attendance.
6. If you have used an online timesheet in SONIA, please print this when you have completed your placement. Your finalised Record of Attendance must be uploaded into SONIA within 3 days of completing your placement. Your grade cannot be finalised until you have uploaded your Record of Attendance.
Three days after the completion of your placement
Seven days after submission date
• Students are assessed against the Australian Nursing Standards Assessment Tool (ANSAT). A copy of this is available to you through SONIA.
• Any unsatisfactory performance that jeopardises people's safety in your care or that does not adhere to the NMBA Registered nurse standards for practice, Code of professional conduct, Code of ethics, A nurse's guide to professional boundaries, and Social media policy criteria, may result in your placement being cancelled.
