Feedback, Recommendations and Responses
Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.
Feedback from Have Your Say unit evaluations, face-to-face feedback, and email communication.
Students highly valued the variety of conditions and physiotherapy specialties covered in this unit, the rapid return of assessment grades, the inclusion of guest lecturers and a community visit to a Rest Home, the additional resources that were provided to enhance learning, and the supportive nature of the teaching staff involved in this unit.
Efforts will continue to be made to collaborate and communicate effectively with students to enhance and support their learning, as well as the continuation of a wide range of resources and input from clinical specialists.
Feedback from Have Your Say unit evaluations.
The majority of lectures in this unit had clearly outlined learning outcomes at the start of the lecture. However several guest lecturer's teaching materials did not include learning outcomes as part of their lecture, so there was less clarity on expected knowledge outcomes for these areas.
Guest lecturers' will be guided and assisted to develop and include learning outcomes as part of the lectures they deliver for this unit in the future.
Feedback from Have Your Say unit evaluations, face-to-face feedback and email communication.
There was not enough time allocated for the Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) at the end of the unit, which resulted in running overtime for several examinations.
The OSCE structure will be reviewed prior to the commencement of Term 1 2018 and the allocated time for these examinations will likely be increased.
Feedback from Have Your Say unit evaluations, face-to-face feedback.
The current implementation of the online palliative care PCC4U online learning module was not valued highly for aiding the understanding of the physiotherapy role in Palliative Care.
The inclusion of the PCC4U modules will be reviewed prior to the commencement of Term 1 2018. The unit coordinator will collaborate with the PCC4U support team to enhance and improve the delivery, implementation, and relevance of this online module.

2 Group Work
Students will be randomly assigned to small groups to develop an educational patient resource that could be used in clinical Physiotherapy practice. This patient resource must be a written resource and can be submitted in the form of either a pamphlet, poster or booklet. Students will choose a topic from a list provided at the start of term. Each group must decide on their chosen topic and have this checked by the Unit Coordinator by the end of Week 2.
The developed resource must include patient targeted education, techniques for self management of their clinical condition and exercise rehabilitation. Intervention and educational choices must be informed by relevant evidence based literature. This developed resource is due on 4pm Friday 1st of June, Week 12.
Each group will then present their developed resource to their peers. Presentations will be 10 minutes, including time for questions. Groups can choose to utilize power point, white boards or posters to present this information. During this presentation students must discuss and reference the evidence based literature that has informed their intervention choices. Presentations will take place during the examination period and may be scheduled outside of usual teaching hours. The confirmed assessment date and a presentation timetable will be released prior to Week 12. Each group's presentation will be peer assessed by another group, which will contribute to 5% of the total grade for this assessment task.
Students will also be required to self assess both their individual participation and their peers’ participation in this assessment item by completing a self and peer assessment survey (SPA).
Referencing should follow the APA format.
Week 12 Friday (1 June 2018) 4:00 pm AEST
The patient resource is due on Friday 3rd June in Week 12, the presentation is due in the examination period.
Marks and feedback will be available within two weeks of submission.
The Group work will be marked per group, 5% will be marked by your peers. The SPA will adjust individual group work marks in accordance to the results of measured work load contribution. Detailed marking criteria will be available on the unit Moodle site, and be based on the following:
- Organisation of resource and communication skills (20%)
- Knowledge of the condition and planning patient care supported by the literature (40%)
- Knowledge of best practice intervention for the selected condition and effectively educates target audience (40%)
The assessment rubric for this assessment task is based on the Australian Standards for Physiotherapy, the Accreditation Standard set by the Australian Physiotherapy Council, and The Assessment of Physiotherapy Practice Instrument. These quality frameworks are mapped against the CQUniversity Graduate Attributes and are intended to give a holistic understanding of standards expected for the assessment task.

3 On-campus Activity
Hurdle 1
At least 85% attendance of tutorial/practical sessions is required for a PASS grade. If there is a genuine reason for being absent, students need to inform the Unit Coordinator as soon as possible.
A minimum attendance requirement of 85% is recommended from the Australian Physiotherapy Council for all tutorials and practical sessions. The monitoring of attendance will take into consideration legitimate reasons for absence, such as those outline in the Assessment of Coursework Procedures (1.21, 1.23 and 1.24) and these will not be counted as absence for the purpose of this attendance requirement.
Hurdle 2
You are required to watch a short video of an Orthopaedic Inpatient session completed by a student physiotherapist. You are then required to complete a set of SOTAP notes for this interaction appropriate for an inpatient chart, including the subjective, objective findings and treatment (please note that the patient mobilises 40m with the student which is not shown on the video). You will create your own analysis of the patient/interaction, and develop your own plan appropriate for a Day 2 post-surgical intervention. Please include at least two SMART goals for the patient as part of your discharge planning.
Your notes should be 1-2 pages only.
Remember all to include all of the relevant medico-legal requirements for writing notes.
Sign the notes as yourself (pretending that you were the practitioner).
You are to submit your documentation via moodle. Due date is 4pm Thursday 19th April.
See above.
Written Hurdle will be returned to the students within 2 weeks of submission. Attendance will be graded at the End of Term 1.
The Hurdle Requirement is a Pass/Fail formative assessment task.
Policies and Procedures:
1. The CQUniversity Assessment of Coursework Procedures policy (for centrally timetabled examinations) applies to all assessment items in this unit. The monitoring of attendance will take into consideration legitimate reasons for absence, as outlined in the aforementioned CQUniversity Assessment of Coursework Procedures policy, and these will not be counted as an absence for the purpose of this attendance requirement.
2. Supplementary Assessments: As per the CQU Assessment of Coursework Procedures policy, students will be notified regarding final unit grades, including the provision of Supplementary Assessments, prior to the official Certification of Grades date for Term 1. All Supplementary Assessments will be granted in accordance with the Grades and Results Procedures policy, Supplementary Assessments will be required to be completed within the two weeks following Certification of Grades.

4 Practical Assessment
The Practical Assessment (OSCE) will consist of two 20 minute examinations based on two written clinical case scenarios (simulated patients). You will perform and discuss aspects of relevant assessment, treatment, clinical reasoning and overall management of the condition presented.
You will be provided with the clinical case scenarios prior to the commencement of the OSCE and will have up to 30 minutes to read the instructions and plan their physical examination and treatment.
The OSCE will last for approximately 40 minutes, and will be video recorded for moderation purposes. Students should be prepared to model for other examinees after completing their own assessment and students from other year groups may also act as models during the assessment as required. This requires attendance in the examination for a minimum of one hour.
The Practical Examination will take place during the exam period. An individual assessment timetable will be published prior to the end of Week 12.
Results and feedback will become available with the official release of final unit grades, as determined by the CQUniversity Certification of Grades Term 1 date.
Each OSCE case will be marked by an examiner and students will be given an average grade of the two cases. Detailed marking criteria will be available on the unit Moodle site, and be based on the following:
- Professional Behaviour (10%)
- Communication (20%)
- Risk Management/Safety (Pass/Fail)
- Assessment and Interpretation (35%)
- Management and Intervention (35%)
The assessment rubric for this assessment task is based on the Australian Standards for Physiotherapy, the Accreditation Standard set by the Australian Physiotherapy Council, and The Assessment of Physiotherapy Practice Instrument. These quality frameworks are mapped against the CQUniversity Graduate Attributes and are intended to give a holistic understanding of standards expected for the assessment task.
In order to PASS the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) you must:
1) achieve a PASS result for the PASS/FAIL component of Risk Management/Safety for each of the two clinical scenarios (i.e. PASS for clinical scenario one and PASS for clinical scenario two).
AND
2) achieve 50% or higher in the graded component for each of the two clinical scenarios (i.e. a minimum of 50% for clinical scenario one and a minimum of 50% for clinical scenario two).
If you do not meet the above criteria for each clinical scenario, you will be eligible for one opportunity to re-sit the entire OSCE assessment task, provided you have:
1) achieved an overall grade equal to, or higher than 44.5% for your OSCE.
AND
2) achieved 49.5% or higher for each of the assessment items that have been completed and graded at the time of the OSCE.
OSCE re-sit conditions
If you meet the eligibility criteria for a re-sit, you will be given only one re-sit opportunity to pass the OSCE.
The re-sit will be assessed by up to two examiners and will be of an equivalent format to the original assessment task.
Where possible, the re-sit will be conducted within two weeks of the original assessment date.
The assessment criteria of the re-sit will be identical to the original OSCE.
If you pass the re-sit you will receive a grade of exactly 50% for the OSCE (i.e. 25% of the Unit grade), irrespective of your achievement for the graded component. This is to ensure equity to those students who only had one attempt.
If you do not meet the requirements to be offered a re-sit, or to PASS the re-sit, you will receive a grade equal to your original OSCE grade and may be offered a supplementary assessment in line with CQUniversity Policy.

As a CQUniversity student you are expected to act honestly in all aspects of your academic work.
Any assessable work undertaken or submitted for review or assessment must be your own work. Assessable work is any type of work you do to meet the assessment requirements in the unit, including draft work submitted for review and feedback and final work to be assessed.
When you use the ideas, words or data of others in your assessment, you must thoroughly and clearly acknowledge the source of this information by using the correct referencing style for your unit. Using others’ work without proper acknowledgement may be considered a form of intellectual dishonesty.
Participating honestly, respectfully, responsibly, and fairly in your university study ensures the CQUniversity qualification you earn will be valued as a true indication of your individual academic achievement and will continue to receive the respect and recognition it deserves.
As a student, you are responsible for reading and following CQUniversity’s policies, including the Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure. This policy sets out CQUniversity’s expectations of you to act with integrity, examples of academic integrity breaches to avoid, the processes used to address alleged breaches of academic integrity, and potential penalties.
What is a breach of academic integrity?
A breach of academic integrity includes but is not limited to plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion, cheating, contract cheating, and academic misconduct. The Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure defines what these terms mean and gives examples.
Why is academic integrity important?
A breach of academic integrity may result in one or more penalties, including suspension or even expulsion from the University. It can also have negative implications for student visas and future enrolment at CQUniversity or elsewhere. Students who engage in contract cheating also risk being blackmailed by contract cheating services.
Where can I get assistance?
For academic advice and guidance, the Academic Learning Centre (ALC) can support you in becoming confident in completing assessments with integrity and of high standard.
