Course Structure

It is essential that you undertake the course in the order that is listed in the course structure; pre-requisite units and co-requisite units must be completed in order to progress in your study.

It is important that you consider Integrated Professional Practice (IPP) units and the terms in which they are offered to ensure you complete at your projected time.

You are required to complete Nurse Practitioner Integrated Professional Practice 2 in the final term of study to enable CQUniversity to recommend you for endorsement as a nurse practitioner with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) at the completion of your degree.

Compulsory attendance at online residential schools is required to enable you to develop the requisite knowledge and capability to progress your study.

Integrated Professional Practice

Students are required to maintain a minimum 0.6 full-time equivalent (FTE) employment in an advanced practice nursing role throughout the duration of study. In addition, students are required to complete 340 hours of supernumerary integrated professional practice (IPP) in their advanced practice role.

If you have difficulty or are unable to meet the clinical requirements at any time during enrolment in this course, you are required to raise this as soon as possible with the CQUniversity nurse practitioner course coordinator so that solutions can be identified and implemented with the clinical facility. Integrated professional practice (IPP) hours will be audited at the completion of each term to determine successful completion of IPP units.

A log of 340 hours of IPP is required throughout the duration of the course. The log is a reflection of the time you have worked with your clinical support team and mentors demonstrating your engagement with professional practice activities in developing your competence towards endorsement as a nurse practitioner.

Nurse Practitioner Portfolio

Master of Nurse Practitioner candidates are required to create a portfolio demonstrating their emerging advanced practice nursing knowledge and skills. Your portfolio will comprise a collection of your work you have completed throughout your Master of Nurse Practitioner course and include written work, presentations, reflections and your log of 340 hours of integrated professional practice. The portfolio you create will be utilised by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (Ahpra) when determining your eligibility for endorsement within the advanced practice role.

In line with accreditation requirements, aspects of the course may be subject to change during your enrolment. These changes may relate to course structure, unit names and content, integrated professional practice hours and/or mandatory checks.
