This course is CRICOS-registered and international students studying on a student visa are required to meet the conditions of their visa, including maintaining satisfactory course progress and attendance. In line with ESOS and National Code standards, international students must participate in scheduled classes, placements, and residentials, and engage actively in online learning components. CQUniversity monitors participation and progression, and students are expected to maintain a minimum of 80% attendance in all scheduled on-campus classes and compulsory activities in order to remain compliant with visa requirements.

All components of the course are aligned with the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS) and are designed to ensure graduates are practice-ready and eligible for professional membership. For students enrolled in the distance online delivery mode, attendance at compulsory residential schools is required to support the development and demonstration of core practice skills and readiness for field education.

The Master of Social Work (Qualifying) requires students to complete 12 units, a total of 96 credit points. Each unit is a compulsory unit.

The course comprises 12 compulsory units delivered in a structured sequence to support progressive development of social work knowledge, skills, and professional capability.

The Master of Social Work (Qualifying) is delivered through a mixed-mode model, combining online and/or on-campus learning with compulsory residential schools and field education placements. Residential schools are embedded across the course and provide structured, face-to-face learning opportunities focused on the development and demonstration of core social work practice skills, including communication, assessment, intervention, and ethical decision-making. The curriculum is scaffolded to support progressive skill development, critical reflection, and integration of theory and practice. Field education forms a central component of the program, with students completing two placements totalling 1,000 hours in approved practice settings under the supervision of qualified social workers.
