Tourism is one of the world’s largest industries. This course will equip you with an understanding of global sustainable tourism principles and their management based on the concepts of the triple bottom line approach. The triple bottom line approach recognises the need for tourism services and products to be environmentally, economically and socio-culturally sustainable. You will develop a greater awareness of the negative impacts of unplanned growth and its linked stresses. You will learn how to manage tourism in natural and protected areas and how to apply sustainability concepts. You will also learn how to apply the core elements of sustainability to the development and ongoing management of tourism businesses and destinations.
Graduates of this postgraduate degree will increase their opportunities of being employed in middle or top management positions within the tourism industry, government agencies, NGOs and other organisations with a focus on sustainability.
Students may also wish to extend their tourism study by continuing with the Master of Sustainable Tourism Management.
