Course Overview

The Master of Research is a course of supervised research and study leading to the submission of a thesis which makes a contribution to knowledge. The course is governed by the Course Rules for the Degree of Master of Research which provide details regarding all aspects of admission, progression, submission and examination of the thesis.

Career Information

A higher degree by research is usually required for an academic career or a professional career in research. In addition, many discipline-specific employers recognise the skills developed through research degree are applicable in the workplace.

What do I need to start?
Entry Requirements

An applicant may be considered for admission to candidature for the degree of Masters of Research if the person holds:

a) an honours degree from CQUniversity or any other approved institution in a relevant discipline

b) a three-year undergraduate degree and a graduate diploma at a high level of academic performance in a relevant discipline

c) a three-year undergraduate degree at a high level of academic performance in a relevant discipline, plus a minimum of one year's relevant work experience

d) a three-year or four-year undergraduate degree with a credit level Grade Point Average (GPA) preferably in a relevant discipline

e) completion of the CQUniversity Graduate Certificate in Research with an average of distinction level of achievement, or

f) alternative qualification/s and/or experience deemed by RHDC to be of equivalent scope and standard to those listed above.

Course Structure

This is a research based course, where progress is monitored on a time and progress basis, rather than credit point accrual.

Students may have opportunities to undertake optional work integrated learning activities appropriate to their discipline area.

Please note, this is a time-based research higher degree. As per enrolment advice and Research Higher Degree course rules, all candidates are enrolled in a unit of study specific to their discipline for the duration of their candidature, but no credit points apply to this unit.  The course is comprised of research and thesis development activities as outlined in the course rules.
