Businesses are increasing wanting graduates who are work ready, who can apply their university developed knowledge, skills and attributes to successfully gain, maintain and participate in work and adapt to new contexts. Graduates want to develop knowledge, skills and attributes that enable them to future proof their careers. This unit achieves both of these purposes by providing you with the opportunity to consolidate your knowledge about your chosen profession/discipline through an authentic learning experience such as an internship, study tour or innovation project. The internship option provides opportunity for you to gain supervised practical work experience. The purpose of the internship is to expose you to workplace practices so that you can apply your business knowledge, gained from your business studies, to the work environment. Completion of the internship option may assist you in gaining employment or being able to engage with employers in employment opportunities. You will undertake an approved, generally unpaid, work placement to a maximum of 20 hours per week for a duration of 12 weeks. You will work closely with the unit coordinator and your workplace supervisor while undertaking the internship. The study tour option in this unit provides you with the practical experience of a study tour interpreted in the light of ethical business principles including, where appropriate, the application of social innovation, and enterprise in practice. The supervised study tour will develop your knowledge and skills in cross cultural, indigenous and business values, business trends, national and foreign markets, and social, economic and health and well-being issues. The project option in this unit will provide you with the opportunity to complete a supervised project at an advanced level that relates to your discipline area. You will be assigned a supervisor who will guide, advise and mentor you throughout the project. The project will focus on a real issue in an existing organisation.
