BUSN20029 - International Business Law

General Information

Unit Synopsis

This unit provides you with an insightful and comprehensive examination of international law. Judiciaries in several countries are increasingly drawing on international law to support their legal reasoning. This is necessitating business leaders build an awareness of how international law may affect the businesses they manage, direct or own. As such, this unit focuses on legal risk around the formation and operation of international commercial transactions. There are four main recognised international business risks; logistical, regulatory, financial, and political. Furthermore, businesses need to comply with conventions ratified by many countries that require a competent understanding of various international instruments. This unit analyses the critical aspects of international law engagement with international organisations, treaty making, dispute resolution and the interaction of international law. Topics covered include the international; trade, sale of goods, legal rules around banking and financial institutions, dispute resolution (for example, arbitration), criminal law, human rights, and electronic commerce. Traditional areas of international law are also covered, such as international legal practice and engagement. Grasping this area of business is important for those seeking a contemporary understanding of the practice and significance of international law.
