Unit Synopsis

This unit will provide you with opportunities to explore the application of your advanced knowledge and skills in domestic and family violence. It builds on your learning acquired in previous units with a specific focus on research skills development. The research proposal you write as a part of this unit will result in a feasible plan to address an aspect of practice in domestic and family violence. You will explore the implications of the intersection of gender, culture and ethnicity in the research context. You will consider ethical, professional and self-management implications for applied research.

Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Maintain a high level of online 'presence'
Action Taken
Guided by previous reviews, I maintained a high level of online "presence" - I uploaded pre-recorded lectures, regularly posted on discussion forums, and offered real-time engagement via zoom. In addition, due to the small number of students, I was able to engage via phone and email one-on-one with students who required additional support or flexibility. Student feedback indicates that this approach was helpful and appreciated.

Pre-recorded lectures should be uploaded at the beginning of the term, with separate recordings for each week of content and the three key assessment items
Pre-recorded lectures for each week's content and each assessment item will be uploaded to the Moodle site at the beginning of term - this will enable students to engage with learning materials at times/places/rates that suit their individual needs.
