Unit Synopsis

This unit will enable you to develop your skills for working safely and effectively to change the behaviour of male users of violence. You will investigate the statutory requirements and standards of safe practice in this field to enhance your understanding of the ethical and legal implications of practice. You will draw on your knowledge of domestic and family violence theories and frameworks to develop a range of group and individual interpersonal skills to challenge and address perpetrator attitudes and behaviours. You will strengthen your knowledge of working with priority populations by developing your skills and abilities in assessing client motivations and their commitment to change; and build your capacity to promote, monitor and review client progress through developing response plans.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

  3. Evaluate strategies and techniques for working in group practice with perpetrators.
  4. Identify and justify safe, professional, and accountable practice to promote client behaviour change and victim safety.
