Unit Synopsis
This unit is for Faculty students enrolled in postgraduate courses and research higher degrees. It is a prerequisite unit to provide essential background for students undertaking research projects, professional practicums, or theses/dissertations. Research methodologies and some research designs can cross the "boundaries" of the different frameworks or paradigms for research-namely the positivistic, interpretative or hermeneutic, and the critical. The intention of the unit is to alert students to the differing strengths and weaknesses of various research designs and methodologies. Another important thrust of this unit is to convey some of the ethical-political issues that arise in doing research.
