Unit Synopsis

Digital technology is in widespread use within modern aircraft systems, for electronic instrument systems and other critical systems that require precision control and a high volume of data processing. This unit covers the digital techniques module of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance basic knowledge requirements syllabus. In this unit, you will develop knowledge of digital theory and application, including logic circuits and computer processing and integrated circuitry. You will also learn about typical electronic/digital aircraft instrumentation systems, electronic displays and how fibre optics are used in modern aircraft. You will also develop skills in the maintenance of digital systems, gaining hands-on practical experience with different types of components and system configurations, including precautions to take when handling electrostatic sensitive devices. This unit is delivered at Aviation Australia campuses by Aviation Australia staff in partnership with CQUniversity.

Attendance Requirements

  2. Explain basic computer structure and terminology and other basic hardware components
  3. Troubleshoot operations of typical electronic/digital aircraft systems, including electronic instrument systems, and electronic displays
  4. Articulate airworthiness and maintenance requirements for electrostatic sensitive devices and digital equipment operating in an electromagnetic environment
  5. Safely perform practical tasks with digital systems in authentic and simulated environments.
