Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Overview

Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task Weighting
1. Group Work 15%
2. Presentation 40%
3. Written Assessment 45%

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Source: SUTE comments and data
Feedback
Students are generally happy with the assessments, consistent and friendly communication, resources and contents.
Recommendation
The authentic assessment, consistent communication and resources and textbook updates should continue.
Action Taken
In response to positive student feedback, the unit continued to implement authentic assessments, ensured consistent and friendly communication, and regularly updated resources and textbooks. These actions were taken to maintain high levels of student satisfaction and enhance the overall learning experience.

Feedback
'Distance' students generally found it difficult to attend or view the two-hours weekly virtual workshops and additional assessment support.
Recommendation
The important assessment related additional support and interactive short videos should be posted in the relevant section of the assessment tile and students missing the critical assessment instruction videos should be individually notified about the resource location using SAM and CQU Success.
Action Taken
To address the challenges faced by distance students in attending or viewing the weekly virtual workshops and additional assessment support, the course implemented a strategy to make critical resources more accessible. Important assessment-related support and interactive short videos were posted in the relevant section of the assessment tile. Additionally, students who missed the critical assessment instruction videos were individually notified about the resource location using SAM and CQU Success, ensuring they had access to the necessary materials.

Feedback
Some students could not identify the exemplar for each assessment and specifically asked for an exemplar for assessment 3 to be added.
Recommendation
Exemplar should be provided for assessment 3 and the video presentation demo should be included in the relevant assessment resource folders in an easily identifiable manner.
Action Taken
To address the issue of students being unable to identify exemplars for each assessment, particularly assessment 3, the course provided an exemplar specifically for assessment 3. Additionally, the video presentation demo was included in the relevant assessment resource folders, ensuring these resources were easily identifiable and accessible to students.

Additional Evening Workshops
Recommendation
Expand the availability of evening workshops and drop-in sessions to better accommodate the schedules of working distance learners, ensuring they have more opportunities to engage with the content and receive guidance. Students typically work full time so during the day sessions may not allow for max live attendance.

Increase Recorded Content Accessibility
Recommendation
Ensure that key recorded segments, such as assessment guidance and Q&A sessions, are prominently featured and easy to locate on Moodle, making it easier for students to access critical information. This is more so around accessibility on Moodle rather than more content. Sometimes it is hard to follow the tab section on Moodle (hard to read).

Regular Engagement Reminders
Recommendation
Continue the weekly 'welcome to the week' messages but include more specific reminders about upcoming deadlines, extension options, and available resources to keep students consistently informed and motivated. This works really well.
