General Information

Unit Synopsis

This final unit reinforces the theoretical and previous clinical units and ensures that, upon entry to the profession, students are well grounded in general radiography, as well as in special procedures, and have a comprehensive understanding of alternative imaging modalities. The professional performance of students will also be reinforced at the highest possible standard and they will be expected to work autonomously as far as their student licence allows. Continuing professional development, research and reflective practice will be reinforced. Students who successfully complete this unit will be professionally competent and eligible to become an accredited practitioner.

Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Moodle layout was clear, including required tasks and this made it easier for students to ensure no assessment task was overlooked and led to the students feeling well-supported.

More information and help regarding AHPRA registration and licensing requirements would reduce some stress from the students
Include this information within the Moodle site as well as within the course portal. Ensure this information is regularly updated.
Action Taken
Information regarding registration and licensing was made available through the Moodle site and the course portal. The unit coordinator and other members of the teaching team were in regular contact with the registration body to ensure timely and accurate information was offered to students.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) presentation were done well and encouraged good communication between coordinator, students and clinical supervisors. Clinical supervisors embraced the tasks and several students presented to their departments
Maintain this activity and ensure that topics maintain currency and relevance. Continue to encourage clinical supervisors to allow students to present to departmental CPD evenings.

The Continuing Professional Development presentation assessment was maintained, and several students uploaded presentations made to their clinical site as their assessment.

Consider swapping one of the reflection tasks to a case study
Some students completed a case study for their CPD assessment. Coordinator reflection is that a review of the types and amount of reflection expected throughout the course would enable good use of assessment types and ensure adequate reflection for students.
Action Taken
A review of reflection tasks across all clinical units by the teaching team resulted in the tasks remaining the same for this iteration of the unit.

The Continuing Professional Development assessment piece was considered to be relevant and beneficial for the students, although more clarity on the requirements would be welcomed.
