Sonographers require expertise in fetal echocardiography. This unit will cover fetal cardiac structure, function, pathophysiology, and sonographic scanning techniques at an advanced level. During this unit you be stepped through standard, advanced, and extended fetal heart echocardiographic views to focus on the 2D ultrasound appearances and Doppler haemodynamics of congenital and acquired cardiac abnormalities. You will develop the ability to recognise fetal arrhythmias. You will acquire theoretical knowledge of advanced imaging techniques tailored to fetal echocardiography including spatio-temporal imaging correlation (STIC), 3D and 4D colour Doppler, tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) and some common cardiac physiological measurements. You will use this learning to inform and apply within your clinical practice to enhance patient care.

The Master of Medical Ultrasound course does not lead to entry into the sonography profession but is rather provided to qualified practitioners to allow advanced practice. Therefore, it does not require external accreditation. The Master of Medical Ultrasound qualifies as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity (activity code 10B - Australian Sonographers Accreditation Registry (ASAR)).
