MGMT11169 - Business Analytics

General Information

Unit Synopsis

With today’s digitisation and technology development, many organisations can collect and consolidate tremendous amounts of data and store them in databases and data warehouses with ease. In business analytics, you will use a variety of computational techniques and/or methods to evaluate and analyse huge sources of data in real time for trends, patterns, classification, relationship, and other useful information. You will learn and examine data sets for statistical inference, and conduct quantitative analysis, predictive modelling, regression, data mining, and optimisation. This is a practical based core unit and will provide you with foundation knowledge to contribute to the use of various data analytics for problem solving.

Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Feedback
Using an Excel spreadsheet for complex data analytics with key mathematical principles might be difficult for students who have never worked with this software before.
Recommendation
The weekly lesson plans will include more Excel spreadsheet exercises to help students learn how to use Excel for complex data analysis.

The updates have been made to the supplementary exercises in weekly module to support student learning.

Due to the lack of interactive engagement among other online students, Some students would want to see more discussion and engagement in the modules through group conversations.
Recommendation
Online students will have more challenging and interesting questions to think about in the weekly forum.

Some interesting and challenging questions have been made available on the forum for online students and discussed during the workshop sessions in an effort to promote critical thinking and participation.

Some instructional materials will be reviewed to simplify some mathematical expressions and make it easier for all students to grasp the fundamental concepts.
