Unit Synopsis

In this unit, students will be introduced to fundamental digital video and audio skills and knowledge. By engaging with activities that integrate practical skills and conceptual understanding, students will be able to produce digital audio and video content for a range of contexts appropriate to the digital content industries.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Term 1 - 2021 : The overall satisfaction for students in the last offering of this course was 4.2 (on a 5 point Likert scale), based on a 33.56% response rate.

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

The number of High Distinction grades awarded to students has been very low for the past few years.
The assessment tasks will be reviewed to ensure that the expectations of the unit are consistent with other Level 1 units and the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Action Taken
The assessment items were reviewed by the teaching team and a number of changes were made to the assessments. As a result, the number of HDs and D's awarded has increased in 2021.

At the 2019 Digital Media Planning Days, academic staff discussed improvements that could be made to the MMST11009 curriculum and assessment tasks, now that new screen production units have been introduced.
The curriculum, learning resources and assessment tasks will be reviewed with the aim of focusing on fundamental skills, and ensuring that the unit is pitched at the right level.
Action Taken
Many changes were made to the Unit content and assessments to ensure the Unit was pitched at AQF Level 5. This will be reviewed again for the 2022 offering.

The submission process for Assessment 1 and 3 via the Moodle Workshop platform was very complex.
Review the submission process for assessment submission. Unless the submission process for Moodle Workshop platform is simplified, discontinue its use.

The number of readings and activities presented in the Weekly Study Guides was too high for some weeks.
Review the volume of weekly learning content across the unit. Ensure the volume of learning is achievable for students at this level.

The assessment due dates for this Unit coincided with those in other Units.
