Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Overview

Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task Weighting
1. Online Quiz(zes) 0%
2. Written Assessment 60%
3. Practical Assessment 0%
4. Online Quiz(zes) 40%

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Feedback
Assessment needed to be a little clearer and students would have liked more feedback.
Recommendation
All markers that assist with marking into this unit are required to attend a markers meeting prior to commencing marking. This meeting provides markers the information and instruction they need to enhance the quality of feedback given to students. Addtionally, from the beginning of this year the unit coordinators have allocated all markers into teams of markers. The unit coordinator's then manage a number of markers and ensure they go in and check the marker's comments as they move through their allocated marking in grademark. This process is intended to encourage more consistent, clear feedback so that students may see both where they have done well and also where they can improve in their academic writing.
Action Taken
Recorded zoom sessions were held for moderation with Markers. All markers were provided with a Marker's toolkit which included examples of appropriate feedback. Discussion was held with all Marker's about the importance of providing constructive feedback as the cohort of students are first year first Term. The Unit Coordinators moderated each Marker's work as they progressed through their marking allocation.

Feedback
Some students report difficulty with the long quiz – equivalent to an exam.
Recommendation
The numbers of students providing feedback about the difficulty in the length of the quiz is actually very low in number however all feedback is considered when revising the unit for upcoming terms of study. The online quiz is a total of two hours long and replaces an invigilated exam. When reviewing the results of the exam and the length of time students have taken to complete the quiz, the large majority of students perform well in the quiz and complete the quiz well within the time frame. This suggests that although a minority of students may prefer the quiz to be shorter the vast majority of students are achieving very good results in the quiz and will therefore continue to be delivered in this way.
Action Taken
The length and content of the quiz provide an accurate evaluation of student knowledge of the fundamental components of nursing. As this curriculum is scaffolded, if they do not have this base well embedded they will struggle with the rest of the curriculum. Of those students who attempted the Summative quiz, there were no fails.

Feedback
I really enjoyed this unit. I feel like all the content covered is extremely relevant and I feel a lot more confident in my decision to study nursing because of it. The assignment hasn't been graded yet but I know it helped me to learn and I'm sure I will receive constructive feedback. All the lecturers are amazing!
Recommendation
Continue to provide relevant, comprehensive and current content delivered in the fashion that is demonstrated to engage students in a positive way.

Feedback
I really really wanted to know what answers I got wrong in assessment 3 online summarise quiz. How can I learn from them if I don’t know what I got wrong??????
Recommendation
The Summative quiz was treated as a formal exam as far as viewing results went. Opportunity was offered to students to review their responses via a zoom meeting. Only five students took advantage of this opportunity. We are currently in the process of having the quiz changed so Term 2 students will be able to see their results.

Feedback
Fun and interactive online classes, demonstrating practical skills for nursing. I especially liked the group activities, and found that these were a good opportunity to get a grasp of the content covered in class. I thoroughly enjoyed this unit and the content. The lecturers made the content easy and fun to learn and they were thorough and knew exactly what they were teaching. Kate and Lisa handled the cancelling of res schools professionally and all questions were appropriately answered in a timely manner.
Recommendation
With the continuing restrictions surrounding COVID-19, the current teaching activities will continue.

Feedback
I found this to be a very exciting unit. I wish I was able to attend res school. I think it would have been such a positive experience. The lecturers knew this unit inside out and did an excellent job of teaching it. I did find this unit a little hard to keep up with. I think it would have been easier for me if I was able to attend res school for the three days liked planned
Recommendation
It is unfortunate that on campus hands on learning is not available at this time. All students must now complete an online Simulation Assessment, where they create a video of themselves undertaking vital signs. They are then asked to create a second video where they reflect on their learning from the assessment.

Feedback
Online recorded lectures and clinical sessions were hard to hear. The moodle recordings for the assessments were awful - very hard to hear and see
Recommendation
To correct this difficulty a transcript was created and uploaded to Moodle for both assessment videos
