NURS20153 - Recovery Into Action

General Information

Unit Synopsis

Recovery-oriented approaches to delivering mental health services are enshrined in current state-level legislation and national and international policy, plans, and standards. In this unit, you interrogate national and international strategic directions for providing mental health care in the context of the consumer movement and recovery-oriented approaches. You also discuss the importance of consumer rights, autonomy, self-determination, and collaborative decision-making when supporting people with the lived experience of mental illness; and appraise the needs of diverse consumers and carers in line with the principles of confidentiality, privacy, and disclosure. Finally, you evaluate the implementation of recovery-oriented services in practice, including the benefits and challenges for mental health nurses.

Although the assessment tasks received every positive review and were considered appropriate for the learning outcomes of the unit, the length of some assessment tasks were considered too long.
Recommendation
A review of the assessment tasks to be undertaken prior to the next time the unit is offered.
