Unit Synopsis

This unit provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate clinical competency (knowledge, attitudes and skills) of a mental health nurse. You will be expected to function within the scope of practice of a registered nurse in accordance with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses standards of professional practice during your clinical placement in a mental health context. The clinical practicum will involve you having experiences in a range of mental health settings. You will be expected to apply the acquired knowledge and skills learnt throughout the course in the provision of quality holistic consumer focused care and interventions. In some circumstances, the clinical placement in this unit may incur a cost . Please contact the School prior to enrolling to ascertain whether a cost is likely to be incurred.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
