Unit Synopsis

This is an applied research unit that provides you with an opportunity to contribute to a real project in a nutrition and dietetics work setting. This unit provides you with the practical experience of executing and reporting on a defined research or quality management project. Working either individually or as part of a team, you will address a specific question relevant to professional practice or an organisational context. The unit is designed to transition theoretical knowledge into applied evidence-based practice. You will develop critical skills in the entire project lifecycle, from using appropriate methodologies to synthesising and communicating findings to an organisational audience.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites

Pre-requisite:

  • MEDS21003 - Medical Science Research Project 1

Students must be enrolled within the courses CM61 Bachelor of Nutrition /Master of  Nutrition and Dietetics or CL88 Master of Nutrition and Dietetics.

 

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  1. Autonomously manage and execute the approved project plan, applying appropriate qualitative and / or quantitative methods to the research process and proactively adapting the process to unexpected challenges encountered in the dynamic healthcare environment.
  2. Interpret the results of the project using evidence-based academic and expert nutrition and dietetics knowledge.
  3. Synthesise and professionally disseminate the findings and recommendations of the project in a written report suitable for the organisation and through an oral presentation to relevant partners.
  4. Demonstrate safe, professional, ethical practice in research.
  5. Critically reflect on your current practice against the national competency standards and identify areas for ongoing professional development.
