NUTR29011 - Public Health Nutrition in Practice

General Information

Unit Synopsis

This unit is designed to develop your competency in the practice of public health nutrition. You will explore and critically analyse the theories of behaviour change and a range of strategies to achieve change and reduce the burden of chronic disease at the population and community levels. Throughout this unit, you will explore the efficacy of current interventions and strategies that are used to address nutrition-related issues at a national and international level. You will then translate and apply public health theories into the development and management of nutrition intervention/promotion projects for an at-risk group in regional communities as a part of your full-time supervised public health nutrition placement within the community (30 days). This experience will develop your research, problem-solving, business management and professional skills as you will work through the stages of project planning, implementation, outcome evaluation and synthesise your findings into a final report. You will communicate your findings and then work with stakeholders to improve the health of community members.
