Unit Synopsis

Public Health Project Work 2 is the third of a suite of four units designed to allow you to undertake a work-related or research project over the course of two terms. This suite of units provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge you have gained throughout the six core public health units and to apply these to a specific project. The project may be related to a public health intervention, evaluation or research topic. This unit will allow you to undertake the relevant work associated with data collection and analysis, reflexivity and management of a project.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 12-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 25 hours of study per week, making a total of 300 hours for the unit.

Feedback
Students often view the reserahc process as somewhat mechanical and do not reflect on their own learning and interests that may be supported by the research experience.
Recommendation
The online discussion activity be structured to encourage reflection and focus more clearly on the personal,intangible aspects of the research experience.
Action Taken
The online discussion was restructured to require personal reflection with less focus on technical issues related to research.

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  1. Monitor integrity of research work with regards to social-ecological model of health principles
  2. Maintain integrity of project work with regards to design, approach and ethical considerations throughout data collection and analysis
  3. Critically reflect on and monitor relationships with project team and participants, ensuring effective communication maintained
  4. Express critical reflexivity through journalling, memos or field notes.
