Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Overview

Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task Weighting
1. Essay 40%
2. Literature Review or Systematic Review 60%

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Source: SUTE comments
Feedback
A part-time student felt that the Evidence-based Practice (EBP) Units are scheduled too late in the course. They felt they may have benefited from the skills learnt in these units earlier on.
Recommendation
Both CC70 and CL70 are 1-year full-time courses. Evidence-based Practice 1 is offered in Term 1 and Evidence-based Practice 2 is offered in Term 2. Unfortunately with the present pre/co-requisites, this would not be possible. Further information regarding pre/co-requisites will be provided to the students as required

Feedback
One student suggested the inclusion of a deeper research project vs the present assessment, a Literature Review
Recommendation
Given the feedback and recommendations that were received at the recent 5-year Course Review for CC70, we replaced the Research Methodology units with EBP units. These new EBP units are better suited to the AHPRA Professional Capabilities for a Registered Paramedic document as they place emphasis on the 5 steps to Evidence-Based Practice and how to apply it in paramedicine. Students that want to undertake a deeper research project can enrol in the Master of Paramedic Science (Critical Care Practice). In future offerings of the unit, this information will be provided on the Moodle page.
Action Taken
Students were informed about the Master of Paramedic Science (Critical Care Practice) and the inclusion of a research project unit.

Feedback
Students enjoyed the ethics assessment and content
Recommendation
As part of the written assessment, students must identify and propose solutions to complex ethical dilemmas that arise in research. We suggest that this practice should be continued in the next offering of the unit as the students found it valuable and it aligns with the unit's learning outcome on ethics.
