General Information

Unit Synopsis

This unit is designed so that you are be able to compare different approaches to community practice and provide the relevant knowledge and skills to critically analyse contexts for community work. You will develop appropriate strategic responses in a range of differing community contexts, including different cultural contexts and from an international perspective. You will develop an understanding of social innovation and the use of social entrepreneurship and social enterprise within communities.

Students will need to have successfully completed 48 credit points.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Week one to be more general introduction to community practice

Introduce ABCD earlier in semester (currently week 9) seen as an important and highly relevant perspective, particularly for assessment 2 due week 6

Rearrange order of weekly topics to reflect usefulness for assessments

The weekly topics followed those from previous years. This has been reviewed for 202 and amended as appropriate.

Tutorials requested - on campus and via Zoom.
Recommendation
Weekly Zoom sessions can be offered as tutorials if required (student preference this semester was for discussion of topics rather than delivering a powerpoint on the week's topic) Covid-19 restrictions prohibited on campus tutorials

Tutorial voting option was provided for 2021, however student attendance was still low. Unit coordinator to continue to explore strategies to increase student engagement.

Feedback
Students reported some confusion with assessment tasks and there appeared to be some inconsistency between the unit profile and assessment task outline uploaded on Moodle.
Recommendation
Improve student engagement with the unit profile through regular messaging in discussion forums. Review the unit profile and resources on Moodle for consistency.
