Welcome to University English (WRIT11021). This unit will provide you with general skills in essay writing. There will also be a focus on writing for different audiences and in a variety of genres. You will be guided through a series of instructions on how to write an essay, how to research an essay topic and how to present your research in a coherent and competent manner. You will be given plenty of opportunities to develop your own essay writing skills by attending to these instructions and by applying them to specific writing tasks. You will also be instructed in research and referencing skills, as well as library use. All of these skills are essential for developing and writing a good academic essay.
These skills will also be useful in a range of workplace contexts, providing you with a broader competence in the analysis and organisation of work-related tasks and critical evaluation of information.
This unit contributes towards the development in students of the CQU Generic qualities, skills and attributes (see http://learning.cqu.edu.au/lt_resources/gen_skills.htm).
