Certificate III in Visual Arts (CUA31115)

Course summary

The Certificate III in Visual Arts is a great place to begin your training as a visual artist. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are developing a range of visual art skills. Foundation skills in painting, drawing, printmaking, silver-smithing, creative process and basic design are offered in this course. Creative practice at this level is underpinned by the application of introductory art theory and history.

Studio Area specialisation

The Studio Area specialisation has been designed for students who would like have a specialisation in two Studio Areas. To achieve the Studio Area specialisation, students can choose two Studio Area’s from Printmaking, Painting or Jewellery.

Silversmithing specialisation

The silversmithing specialisation has been designed for students who would like to specialise in units mainly related to silversmithing. This specialisation has been developed to provide students with the skills and knowledge to make jewellery work (largely silversmithing artifacts) within a visual art and fine art context.

Student Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations

Self-employment opportunities exist as visual artist or craftsperson, visual designers, workshop tutors, or an introduction to a jewellery apprenticeship. Skills acquired in this course may be relevant to the production of goods suitable to markets and gift galleries. Some students may produce work relevant to commercial, fine art galleries.

For full-time study, students must enrol into the Drawing Cluster, Theory Cluster and two of the Studio Area Specialisations.
For part-time study, students can complete any cluster available at the current intake.

Summary

This course is available to study on-campus at the following locations: 

CQUniversity Rockhampton City
All classes will be held at the Rockhampton City Visual Arts Studio, located at Building B, at the following times for each cluster:

Painting Cluster
Classes are held on Mondays from 9 am - 3 pm.

Jewellery Cluster
Classes are held on Tuesdays from 1pm - 4pm.

Drawing Cluster
Classes are held on Wednesdays from 10 pm - 3 pm.

Printmaking Cluster
Classes are held on Thursdays from 9 am - 3 pm.

Studio Project Cluster
Classes are held on Fridays from 9 am - 12 noon.


2018 Mixed Mode (Silversmithing Specialisation)

There are two course intakes for 2018, available in February and July.

Summary

This course is available to study on-campus at the following locations:

Classes will be held at the Rockhampton City Visual Arts Studio, located at Building B on Tuesdays from 5 pm - 8 pm. 


2018 VET in Schools (VETiS)

Timing
There are four course intakes for 2018, available in February, March, July and August.

2 years part-time


Summary

This course is available to study on-campus, through the VET in Schools program, at the following locations: 

CQUniversity Rockhampton City
All classes will be held at the Rockhampton City Visual Arts Studio, located at Building B. VETiS students will attend one day per week dependant on which cluster they are enrolled into. The following times are available for each cluster:

Painting Cluster
Classes are held on Mondays from 9 am - 3 pm.

Jewellery Cluster
Classes are held on Tuesdays from 1 pm - 4 pm.

Drawing Cluster
Classes are held on Wednesdays from 10 pm - 3 pm.

Printmaking Cluster
Classes are held on Thursdays from 9 am - 3 pm.

Studio Project Cluster
Classes are held on Fridays from 9 am - 12 noon.

Resource Requirements

Students will be required to purchase art materials for the completion of visual art projects, relevant to their studio area electives. Approximately, $50 - $200 should be considered a typical cost for student provided visual art materials per studio area electives chosen.
