Course summary

This qualification reflects the role of individuals employed as beauticians to provide a range of beauty services including nail, waxing, lash and brow, and basic make-up services.

These individuals possess a range of well-developed technical and customer service skills where discretion and judgement is required, and are responsible for their own outputs. This includes client consultation on beauty products and services.

Work is typically conducted in beauty, waxing, brow and nail salons.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course, however students are to apply and meet with the teacher prior to enrolment.

It is recommended that students consult the teacher, should they require clarification of the practical and written requirements in order to achieve competency, or have work, medical or family commitments to consider. 

Student Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations

On successful completion of the full qualification, students will be eligible to be employed as Beauticians and provide a basic range of beauty services including natural nail treatments, waxing, lash and brow, and basic make-up services.

Distance Education

Enrolments are taken throughout the year on a continuous basis.

Summary
This course is available by Distance Education with compulsory, on-campus workshops.

Notes

Distance students require strong self motivation and must have 4-6 hours per week available for study for each unit. This course is self paced so students must have sound literacy and numeracy skills. This course is delivered by distance education so students must have access to a computer and the internet. 

Students undertaking this course via Distance Education study will be required to attend compulsory on-campus workshops held at the CQUniversity Mackay City, Rockhampton City or Gladstone City campus. Duration of these on-campus workshops will be scheduled throughout the term and will be held for approximately 2-4 days.

Model Requirements and Client Treatments

It is each student’s responsibility to ensure that a model is obtained and booked into the appointment book for all Practical Assessments.

Students must be prepared to provide treatments to clients.

Resource Requirements

Students will be provided with the details of an approx. $100 kit they will be required to purchase from Norris Hair and Beauty or Beautopia, before they commence training. The kit will contain disposable spatulas, steel spatulas, hot and strip wax, PPE and consumables such as tissues, cotton tips, makeup rounds etc. The items will form part of a bulk resource for training that will be stored at each campus.

Available from CQUni Bookshop approx. $120, or on loan from the CQUni Library

Uniform Requirements

Practical Presentation:   

Black or white tunic.  
Pants, ¾ Pants or black knee-length skirt with stockings.
Covered in Flat Shoes.
Disposable Apron.
Minimum makeup, minimum jewelry, no midriffs, short manicured nails.
