ACC58630 - Short Course in Work Ready Program

Course Summary

This program has been requested by Gladstone Ports Corp and other organisations in Gladstone. This skills set covers eight units to introduce their first year apprentices to training and be useful in the workplace. The theory and practical tasks will be completed on campus by the apprentices in a simulated environment, giving them an interim result of CA**. Completion of on-the-job practical work at the apprentice's place of employment with the appropriate documentation completed and forwarded to CQUniversity to deem the apprentice competent in each unit, giving a final competent result of CA. For some of the apprentices these units will align with their Apprenticeship Training Plan under User Choice funding and they will be enrolled in the appropriate availability. For the balance of the apprentices, for example the plumbers/ electricians, the units to not align with their trade and they will be a Fee-For-Services arrangement and enrolled in the availability under this skills set. This program is requested annually in Gladstone.

Course Structures

Study Mode Definitions

  • Online: Online courses provide the flexibility to study without normally requiring a student to visit a campus. Course content is studied through a number of means including the use of online discussion forums, electronic library resources, by contacting lecturers and teachers, and receiving study materials online/electronically. Work integrated learning, including placements, may be included in some courses.
  • On-campus: Students studying in on-campus mode typically are expected to attend and participate in regular, structured on-campus teaching and learning activities throughout the University’s academic term. These activities may include lectures, tutorials, workshops and practice, online or other activities and normally will be timetabled at a CQUniversity campus or approved delivery site.
  • Mixed Mode: Students studying in mixed mode will participate in a combination of online learning activities in addition to site-specific learning activities, which may include residential schools, co-op placements and/or work-integrated learning as a compulsory requirement of a unit. The additional site-specific learning activities are what differentiates a mixed-mode unit from an online unit.

*All study modes may include Vocational placement and/or work integrated learning.

Course Structure

This is a 3 week course and requested by Gladstone Ports and other organisations in Gladstone. It has been specially designed for their first year apprentices to complete the skills set to enable the employees to be able to commence work activities asap. The 3 units will align with some of the apprentice's Training Plan and others, such as the Electricians, are doing these units as a Fee-For-Service outside their Apprenticeship Training Plan. The 3 units are accredited under the MEM30205 Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade) course.

A workplace third party report from their supervisor is required for students to be determined competent in the units. The cohort for this particular proposal is for the Fee-For-Service students, as the Apprentices will be enrolled under their normal User Choice course.

This course is delivered and assessed by CQUniversity VET Educators under a Training Services Agreement with the appropriate organisation.
