ACC71984 - Short Course in Low Voltage Rescue

Course Details

Course Summary

This unit covers the performance of rescue procedures from live low voltage (LV) apparatus, not including overhead lines and underground cables in the workplace. It specifies the mandatory requirements of rescue from a live LV panel and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution or rail work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work. The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence/registration to practice in the workplace subject to regulations for undertaking of electrical work. Other conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licencing requirements which must be confirmed prior to commencing this unit. HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a pre-requisite unit. Generally, the units UETTDRRF06 Perform rescue from a live LV panel and HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation are delivered and assessed together as both require refresher training every twelve months. HLTAD001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council to be refreshed annually and UETTDRRF06 Perform rescue from a live LV panel be reassessed/refreshed every 12 months as per Electrical Safety Regulations (QLD) 2013.

Entry Requirements

HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a pre-requisite for this course.  The course is structured to deliver and assess this unit before moving onto UETTDRRF06 Perform rescue from a live LV panel content and assessments.

Student Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations

This unit covers the performance of rescue procedures from live low voltage (LV) apparatus, not including overhead lines and underground cables in the workplace. It specifies the mandatory requirements of rescue from a live LV panel and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution or rail work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work. The Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 requires that a safety observer for energised electrical work is assessed as competent within the previous one year (the 2002 Regulation requires assessment within the previous six months). Those engaged in the electrotechnical industry are required to have this qualification as part of the licencing requirements and to carry out electrical work on liver LV panels where a safety observer is required.
