Course Summary

This short course will include (5) units of competency from within MEM30305: Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (Boilermaking/ Welding) - MEM05007C - Perform manual heating and thermal cutting MEM05012C - Perform routine manual metal arc welding MEM05015D - Weld using manual metal arc welding process MEM05050B - Perform routine gas metal arc welding MEM05017D - Weld using gas metal arc welding process This short course is being delivered to provide skilled persons within industry with the opportunity to upgrade their skills to continue working within current industry needs and requirements. The competencies included in this course are only available through specific organization's who require their employees to complete this as a Higher Engineering Trade Qualification under User Choice or Fee-For-Service.


Entry Requirements

While there are no qualification entry requirement, it is assumed that the learner is either tradesperson with access to on and off the job training, or is an apprentice under the Australian Apprentices agreement where a mix of on and off the job training would be specified in the training plan associated within the contract of training between the employer and apprentice. Workplace training and simulation would be provided by the cohort through adequately trained staff on site covering aspects f the under pinning knowledge and practical skills required to fulfil outcomes.

Course Structures

Study Mode Definitions

  • Online: Online courses provide the flexibility to study without normally requiring a student to visit a campus. Course content is studied through a number of means including the use of online discussion forums, electronic library resources, by contacting lecturers and teachers, and receiving study materials online/electronically. Work integrated learning, including placements, may be included in some courses.
  • On-campus: Students studying in on-campus mode typically are expected to attend and participate in regular, structured on-campus teaching and learning activities throughout the University’s academic term. These activities may include lectures, tutorials, workshops and practice, online or other activities and normally will be timetabled at a CQUniversity campus or approved delivery site.
  • Mixed Mode: Students studying in mixed mode will participate in a combination of online learning activities in addition to site-specific learning activities, which may include residential schools, co-op placements and/or work-integrated learning as a compulsory requirement of a unit. The additional site-specific learning activities are what differentiates a mixed-mode unit from an online unit.

*All study modes may include Vocational placement and/or work integrated learning.

The program may be required to run over 10 weeks to complete all training for all student's, attendance will be face-face on campus of one week blocks 38 hours, for the various units of competency.
