Course Summary

Early Childhood Specialisation

Studying the Certificate II in Community Services with an Early Childhood Specialisation will provide a pathway to future study for workforce entry as an Educator in the Early Childhood Sector and Education Support (Teacher Aide) in Education. At this level, work takes place under direct, regular supervision within clearly defined guidelines. Completion of the CQUniversity Certificate II in Community Services provides graduates with a direct pathway into the CQUniversity Certificate III for Early Childhood Education and Care. With students receiving credit directly towards 6 units in our Certificate III for Early Childhood Education and Care. High school students intending to undertake this course are advised to commence in Year 11.

For your application to be considered, you must meet the following entry requirements.

Entry Requirements

Completion of the BKSB (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy, numeracy and digital literacy assessment prior to enrolment, unless you have completed an equal or higher level course.

Start TAFE Now students must be in Year 11.

During your study:

To complete this course, students are required to undertake vocational placement and complete a minimum of 100 hours. 

Students are required to obtain a Suitability Card (Blue Card).

Access to a computer, internet, and intermediate computer skills will be required. 

Vocational Placement and Work Integrated Learning

Students must complete a Vocational Placement and/or Work Integrated Learning as part of this qualification.

Additional information

To complete this course, students are required to undertake vocational placement and complete a minimum of 100 hours in an approved Early Childhood service.

To participate in vocational placement students are required to obtain a Suitability Card (Blue Card).

Upon completion, graduates can continue their early childhood education journey by progressing into the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and receive credit towards 6 units.

COURSE STRUCTURE
ONLINE STN EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIALISATION

Early Childhood Specialisation

This qualification structure is tailored specifically towards high school students wanting to complete the course in year 11.

Training is delivered via the CQUniversity online learning platform Moodle, over a period of 54 weeks. It is possible for students to complete their training sooner if they have reached the required skill level.

Zoom sessions are provided weekly, excluding Queensland School Holiday periods. Students are able to access a teacher during these times to assist and guide them with their studies.

To complete this course, students are required to undertake vocational placement and complete a minimum of 100 hours in an approved Early Childhood service.

Enrolment Sequence

Please refer to the VET Course Planners for further details relating to the cluster enrolment sequence of this course.  Students must enrol into all units of the cluster unless they are eligible for credit transfer of any unit/s completed within another qualification.

 

Compulsory Attendance Requirements

Students who are not currently working in an educational workplace must organise a voluntary work placement.  All students will need to complete third party reports, practical assessment and a vocational placement logbook.  These observations and reports will need to be signed off by a qualified supervisor within at a minimum, the same level qualification. Students will be required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of placement throughout the duration of the course.
