Course Summary

Studying a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care you will learn how to work within organisational policies and procedures, develop an understanding of how to use individual children’s profiles to plan activities and provide care and education to children, as well as the skills needed to facilitate leisure and play. Upon completion you will be qualified to work within the requirements of the Education and Care National Quality Framework.

Entry Requirements

Required: Completion of bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course. 

Ability to complete vocational placement component for the duration of the qualification.

Ability to obtain a Suitability Card (Blue Card).

Student Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations

  1. Students will receive a Result of Assessment within 21 days of completion of each unit/module or within 21 days of the ‘close of study’ date.
  2. Students who successfully complete all required units/modules will receive their qualification and an Academic Statement itemising all units/modules successfully completed.
  3. Following receipt of written advice from the student (or teacher) that the student does not intend to complete the full course, the student will be issued with a Statement of Attainment listing all units/modules successfully completed.

Pathways: On completion of CHC30113 Certificate III Early Childhood Education and Care, opportunities to access higher level degree qualifications exist within CQUniversity. Credits from this Certificate are recognised and embedded in the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

Enrolment advice for Mixed Mode Delivery

Students enrolling into CHC30113 are to enrol into Cluster 1 – Units CHCECE002, CHCECE004, CHCECE016, HLTWHS001.

All resources for this qualification are available online through Moodle.  

Practical Placement Information

Each unit in this course has a practical component. Students who are not already working in a regulated education and care service for example Kindergarten or Long Day Care centre must organise a voluntary work placement. Students who are already employed in a regulated education and care service, can use their existing work to fulfil practical requirements. 


All students will need to complete third party reports, practical assessment and a vocational placement logbook. These observations and reports will need to be signed off by a qualified supervisor with at a minimum, the same level qualification. Students will be required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of placement throughout the duration of the course. 


All students will need to hold a Blue Card prior to starting their practical work placement.  For more information on the 'Blue Card' visit - https://www.bluecard.qld.gov.au or phone: 1800 113 611. Students not currently working in the industry will need to organise a placement in consultation with teaching staff.


Skilling Queenslanders for Work Initiative

Community organisations successful in their application with the Queensland Government have access to the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative. This funding can assist students, who meet the eligibility criteria, apply for a place in their community organisation’s project. Further information about the initiative can be found at https://training.qld.gov.au/home/sqw


The following community organisations have a partnership agreement in place with CQUni, as the preferred Registered Training Organisation. This partnership gives these organisations the ability to recruit students within their community who meet the eligibility criteria set by the Department of Education and Training, and send through documentation to enable CQUni to process the pre-enrolments.
