This Skill Set provides an opportunity for you to upskill and work in diverse health care settings, and combines two very practical and accredited units, which are delivered by CQUniversity health professionals in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards, and industry codes of practice.

  • Recognise healthy body systems (HLTAAP001)
  • Assist clients with medication (HLTHPS006)

HLTAAP001 RECOGNISE HEALTHY BODY SYSTEMS
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work with basic information about the human body and to recognise and promote ways to maintain healthy functioning of the body. It applies to any worker who needs to use and interpret information that includes references to client anatomy and physiology.

There are two learning modules for this unit.

  • Module One - Work with information about the human body
  • Module Two - Recognise and promote ways to support healthy functioning of the body

Evidence of completing the HLTAAP001 unit of competency from a previous qualification (eg Certificate III in Individual Support or Certificate III in Health Services Assistant) provides exemption from undertaking the HLTAAP001 unit and credit towards the CHCSS00070 Skill Set.

HLTHPS006 ASSIST CLIENTS WITH MEDICATION

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and provide medication assistance and complete medication documentation. It also involves supporting a client to self-administer medication. It applies to community services and health workers with authority in their state or territory to assist with the administration of medication.

There are five learning modules for this unit.

  • Module 1 - Prepare to assist with medication
  • Module 2 - Prepare the client for assistance with administration of medication
  • Module 3 - Support clients with administration of medication
  • Module 4 - Handle medication contingencies
  • Module 5 - Complete medication distribution and documentation

All learning content is accessed via the CQUniversity online platform, Moodle. Students should allocate 5 - 7 hours per week for independent online study, and an additional 8 - 10 hours for practical training and assessment activities.

The methods used to assess these units include quiz and short answer questions, and a simulated practical skill activity. All students must participate in practical training, usually conducted over one full day, either at a CQUniversity campus or in the workplace. The schedule and location of training is arranged by CQUniversity in collaboration with the student's Employer.

The CQUniversity Academic team of Enrolled and Registered Nurses and Individual Support teachers provide learning and study support to students throughout the delivery. Students can access this support via  scheduled virtual drop-in sessions and email.
