Course Summary

Establish yourself in the accounting industry with the Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the accounting and bookkeeping industry, including business activity statement (BAS) agents and contract bookkeepers; and of those employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations in a range of industries. It includes preparing and lodging business and instalment activity statements, data processing, monthly reconciliations, preparing budgets, preparing reports on financial performance and the position of the business, preparing end-of-year adjustments, and finalising financial records after year-end.

Dealing with the Commissioner of Taxation on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to activity statements and other lodgment matters is also a key component of the role that this qualification reflects. Individuals in these roles apply theoretical and specialist skills and knowledge to work autonomously, and exercise judgement in completing routine and non-routine activities.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification considerations

Work functions in the occupational areas where this qualification may be used are subject to regulatory requirements. Refer to the relevant regulator for specific guidance on requirements.

Persons providing a BAS service for a fee or other reward must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the TPB education requirements for registration as a BAS agent. Other requirements apply, including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the TPB, as registration requirements are reviewed regularly

Entry Requirements

Completion of the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy, numeracy and digital literacy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.

The Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb) is an approved online review tool that will give you a level for your English (literacy) and Maths (numeracy) levels, and can also help to identify any skill gaps or areas that you might need additional support in.

The achievement of this qualification requires you to complete 10 core and 3 elective units.  On successful completion, students will receive a Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping.

Career Opportunities: Employment in accounting job roles with duties such as - Completing Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other office taxes, operational reporting, producing non-complex management reports including compiling budget information, supervising the operation of computer-based financial systems, classifying, recording, and reporting accounting information, managing a small office, and ensuring relevant legal requirements are adhered to.

Pathways: Students who successfully complete FNS40222 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping will be eligible for entry into CQ01 Bachelor of Accounting or CL86 Bachelor of Business and may be eligible for credit.

Duration:

12 months Full-time or 18 months Part-time

Students are encouraged to enrol into one unit at a time. Each unit is expected to take 10 weeks to complete. Some students may progress at a faster rate based on their experience, knowledge, and skills, as they will be able to apply the actual context of workplace experience to their assessments.

The achievement of this qualification requires you to complete 10 core and 3 elective units.  On successful completion, students will receive a Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping.

You have ten weeks from the start date of your study period to complete the unit and should aim to allocate at least five hours per week to study.

Online self-directed course study is structured into fixed intake study periods that have set durations of 10 weeks per intake period from the intake commencement date.  You will be able to access your learning materials two weeks prior to the commencement of the intake study period. You must be enrolled into your unit/s to be able to access your learning materials.

To ensure you can manage your study load, we strongly recommend students follow the recommended unit study sequence when enrolling and enrol in no more than 1 unit per intake or the units required to complete one cluster/stage unless otherwise advised. 

You have ten weeks from the start date of your study period to complete the unit and should aim to allocate at least five hours per week to study.
