Course Summary

This qualification is designed for individuals who require further foundation skills development to prepare for workforce entry or vocational training pathways. It is suitable for individuals who require:

◾ a pathway to employment or vocational training.

◾ reading, writing, numeracy, oral communication and learning skills at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 3.

◾ entry level digital literacy and employability skills.

◾ a vocational training and employment plan.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:

14 units of competency -

◾ 1 core unit and 13 elective units.

Electives - up to 5 from Group A (Numeracy); 5 from Group B (Reading, writing, oral communication, learning and digital technology); 3 from any endorsed qualification or course (other than FSK)

Elective units must be relevant to vocational pathways and not duplicate the outcomes of already selected units.

 


Entry Requirements

As this course is a foundational qualification, students are required to undertake a pre-training assessment using the Basic Key Skills Builder bksb© to determine if the learner’s skill level is below the Australian Course Skills Framework (ACSF) level 3.

Additional language and literacy pre-assessments with a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) specialist is also required to determine eligibility for Foundation Skills funding into this course.

Students will be required to have access to a computer with internet through a CQUniversity campus or local council library if no access to a home computer.

Study Mode Definitions

  • Online: Online courses provide the flexibility to study without normally requiring a student to visit a campus. Course content is studied through a number of means including the use of online discussion forums, electronic library resources, by contacting lecturers and teachers, and receiving study materials online/electronically. Work integrated learning, including placements, may be included in some courses.
  • On-campus: Students studying in on-campus mode typically are expected to attend and participate in regular, structured on-campus teaching and learning activities throughout the University’s academic term. These activities may include lectures, tutorials, workshops and practice, online or other activities and normally will be timetabled at a CQUniversity campus or approved delivery site.
  • Mixed Mode: Students studying in mixed mode will participate in a combination of online learning activities in addition to site-specific learning activities, which may include residential schools, co-op placements and/or work-integrated learning as a compulsory requirement of a unit. The additional site-specific learning activities are what differentiates a mixed-mode unit from an online unit.

The full course is typically delivered over a thirty four (34) week period; however, as it is competency based, it may be possible for learners to complete their training sooner if they have reached the required skill level. Full time students will be required to study a minimum of 15 hours per week, and this includes assessment preparation.

Online Standard Course Structure

The full course is typically delivered over a thirty four (34) week period; however, as it is competency based, it may be possible for learners to complete their training sooner if they have reached the required skill level. Full time students will be required to study a minimum of 15 hours per week for a suggested full time study load, and this includes assessment preparation.

Course Assessment Information

RPL - Students who have previous informal and formal learning need to advise their trainer/assessor prior to enrolment. If the student wishes to apply for an RPL they need to apply to the RPL Centre.
Credit transfer - If credit for relevant formal qualifications is sought, then the process will be actioned after the student has enrolled in at least one unit of competency as directed by the relevant trainer/assessor. The Trainer/Assessor will work with the student on their credit transfer application, and provide advice and support as necessary.

FSK20119 Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways is an online self-paced learning course which provides learners with support for the development of foundation skills needed to prepare for workforce entry and vocational training pathways.  

Upon successful completion of this course, graduates will have developed foundation skills to prepare them on a pathway to employment or for further vocational training of their choice.

This course is ideal for:

·         Jobseekers re-entering the workplace

·         Early school leavers seeking to recommence study

·         Individuals with learning barriers, who would benefit from a supported learning environment

This course covers a range of Nationally accredited units of competence, which covers the following skill sets:

  • Career, employment, and training
  • Communicate and connect in the workplace
  • Safety in the workplace
  • Maths in the workplace
  • Digital Technology

How you will be supported through your course:

·    Specialised language, literacy and numeracy teachers are available to support and guide students through their study.

  • Weekly tutorials will be held via zoom, where the teacher will support learners to consolidate learning and provide feedback on progress.

Is what I already know taken into account?

Yes. Your history of study, skills and experience does matter. Consideration is given to your prior life and work experiences as well as formal and informal training. This may be applied using the national standard for Mutual Recognition or through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Documentary evidence will be requested.
