This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide support for the effective functioning of health services. At this level workers complete tasks under supervision involving known routines and procedures or complete routine but variable tasks in collaboration with others in a team environment. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must undertake work placement as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
Completion of the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.
There are no entry requirements for this course however all students are required to collect and complete mandatory checks as per CQUniversity policy in preparation for the compulsory vocational placement. Please make yourself familiar with the Compulsory Pre-Placement Requirements.
These mandatory vocational placement requirements ensure patient and student safety. Also refer to the Clinical Placement Guidelines and Mandatory Checks Requirements for Vocational Placement requirements.
The COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory to be eligible to attend a WIL placement for this course. Students will be required to provide evidence of having completed a COVID-19 vaccination schedule by the closing date prior to a WIL placement. The vaccine received must be a vaccine approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Australia.
Students must complete a Vocational Placement and/or Work Integrated Learning as part of this qualification.
Additional information
Students are required to complete the assessment conditions per unit of competency, which includes work placement and/or simulated assessment. Every student is required to attend three (3) days vocational placement as scheduled by CQuniversity in conjunction with the school.
Students are required to complete Mandatory Checks prior to placement to comply with the Compulsory Pre-Placement Requirements and relevant cut off dates to be eligible for vocational placement.
Maryborough State High School ONLY
Students are required to attend Simulated Residential School - this will be delivered by CQU teacher in a "Health" room set up at the high school during nominated face-to-face time.
Vocational Placement is a requirement of this qualification - students will be attending Maryborough Hospital for three days (school hours), and will be required to complete Mandatory Checks prior to placement. All theory and simulation assessments must be graded satisfactory in order for students to attend Vocational Placement.

The qualification also provides a foundation to the health sector to prepare for career pathways into Higher Education qualifications e.g. nursing and allied health.
